Chapter 8

District 8: Reaping

Tinkerbell's POV

My second reaping and I am in the bowl eighteen times.

My family put me in for a lot of tesserae. We are the poor population of 8. My mother struggles to find food for us so hopefully this should help.

I make toys for the children in my district. I am constantly coming up with new inventions that might help my mother and I.

I waited anxiously for the mentor to come out and reap the tributes.

Jiminy Cricket finally came out to announce them.

He dug his hand into the glass bowl that held the boys' names.

District 8 and District 2 were the only ones who picked the boys first.

He cleared his throat.

"Kocuom Rheims."

I turned and saw a large muscular boy step onstage. He looked like he could kill everyone in the first day.

Jiminy wasn't wasting time. He immediately took a slip of white paper from the girls' bowl and read the name.

"Tinkerbell Fleming." He said in his profound voice.

My eyes widened.

"Me?" I said without thinking.

The crowd turned and looked at me.

I walked onto the stage and crossed my arms. I could feel my face getting red. I was both angry, and scared.

"District 8, your tributes."

Kocuom's POV

I walked briskly up to the stage. This was the moment I have been waiting for. Being reaped for the Hunger Games.

Volunteering was for people who were desperate to die. I was ready for this.

I stood up straight on the stage.

Jiminy called up a small girl with a blond bun. Her face was getting redder by the minute. She would be easy to kill off.

We were escorted into a room to say goodbye to our families.

Tinkerbell's mother comes in sobbing.

"Mom, your embarrassing me." She said.

Her mother didn't listen and kept crying.

She left and my sister comes in and hugs me tightly.

Before the peacekeepers dragged her away, she whispered something in my ear.

"Kill them all."
