Chapter 38

Laura Grace/Gracie/LG – POV

I open my eyes and the sun is just starting to come up. I start to move when I feel an arm pull me closer to a warm body. I smile to myself and start to wiggle out of the arms. "Nooo, not yet." He says as I get away.

"You're fine I'll be back." I kiss him gently as he smile's he rolls over. I walk to the bathroom and do my business and brush my teeth. I link Sarah as I walk out of the bathroom, "You awake?" I pick up my dress I wore the day before. It is Tuesday, Monday flew by so fast I don't remember blinking. I had meetings all morning. I had to sit with the Mayor all afternoon because I was going to be gone at least a week and he was not happy about that. Max was with me for the first part of the morning then had to leave to work on Pack business. While Max went to our new house and worked left, Sarah was with me. We felt like all was right in the world for about 3 hours till we got back to our pack and Lizzie and Charlie were trying to figure out what the access codes for the cameras were. At that Sarah gave them a cheat sheet and we left to our new house.

Last night was pizza and beer in front of the new TV Max had installed in the room behind the stairs that in our old house was Lizzie's office. Max decided that we would knock the wall down and make it an entertainment room and our offices would be upstairs. He also wanted to share an office with me, I didn't start that fight last night, we have time for that later. Now I just wanted to go for a run and clear my head before the Pack Meeting at 10 for the Beta ceremony.

"Chief?" Sarah questioned my thru out link.

"Yeah, wanta go for a run?" I ask her as I slip on the dress in my hands. I walk to the door and start to open it as Max sits up.

"Sneaking out?" Max asks rubbing his face.

"Just for a run before a few calls I have this morning. I asked Sarah to go with me." I was still standing at the door as he got up and walked to me and kissed my forehead.

"Do you need girl time, is that why your sneaking out?" Max asked crossing his arms in front of me looking down.

"Don't be upset. I just know she is going to be busy when she becomes your Beta and I want my time with her now." I look at him regretfully. I know she won't be at my beckon call anymore when she becomes one of his Beta's.

"Um Chief." I hear from the other side of the door. I look at Max and he has already went running for his boxer briefs and put them and his pants on. I open the door and Sarah standing there in Tanner's white button down from the day before. I do believe they have a black slack and white button-down unwritten code or something.

"Hey. We going for a run?" I ask her as she sneaks in.

"Well, yes. But we have to talk about this Beta thing." She says looking at Max. "I will not be used as a weapon. And I want to control all security detail for Chief and I want to control the tech here." Sarah tells Max. By the look on Max's face and body he is not taking it too well.

"I would NEVER use you as a weapon!" Max says sharply walking towards us as there is a knock on the door. "TANNER YOU BETTER COME IN BEFORE I LOSE MY SHIT." Yep he's mad. The door opens and Tanner steps in and looks at Sarah.

"We agreed to have this conversation together." Tanner says standing next to Max with his arms crossed defensively. I can feel the tension.

"Look, I know you told me he wouldn't, but I wanted to make it clear." She says right back to Tanner, clearly this was an ongoing thing with them. "I don't know why I just can't keep doing what I am doing now? Doesn't she need a Beta or something?" Sarah says taking the defensive stance now.

I look at Max and he is scrubbing his face, "We had not even discussed this, meaning you and I, Sarah. I was going to wait till we got to the palace. I know Tanner told you about my wish for you to be a Beta, because I need your knowledge as an advisor and if you want to go with Tanner on missions you have to be a Beta." He tells Sarah looking from Tanner to her keeping his tone even. I know he is still upset. "I agree I need you on the tech for all of our territory. I think we need to make that priority one, that means I need a Beta on that." He tells her as she nods.
