Laura Grace/Gracie/LG/Chief

"You set?" Sarah says to me as I walk to the garage.

"No, you think we could take the Aston and run?" I ask her whispering.

"NO! Get your sweet Ass over here!" Max yells.

"Damn his hearing is better than yours." I say to Sarah. She just shakes her head and stops at the black Chevy Tahoe Tanner came in is loaded with our luggage. They have Brett, Hanna and Sasha with them. Kyle, Lizzie, Charlie and Travis are in the Land Rover, while Max and I decided to take the Red Corvette. He asked if that could be his gift. I just rolled my eyes and said no. I would get him his own. As she gets in the SUV I stand next to it looking at it.

"You okay Chief?" Sarah asks opening the door.

"Yeah, just be safe. I will see you in a few hours." I say to her as she nods. Max's place was only 6 hours away, but I have never been that far without Sarah. It just feels weird. As I stand there watching I feel Max come from behind and lift me up and carry me like a baby to the car and put me in.

"I can walk!" I yell at him.

"You can? Then why weren't you? Everyone is gone." He asks walking around to get in and start the car. "Look are you okay? Are you having second thoughts or..." I interrupt him.

"No, no. It's just I have never been without Sarah on a long trip. It's weird and she always calms me down." I tell him as he takes my hand and I feel the tension start to ease.

"I know you are nervous, but it will be fine. You already do so much, and you can create a whole team if you want. You still have your work; it is just adding some events and dealing with more Alpha's. I think you can handle that." Max tells me as we pull out of the garage and toward the gate. I notice a black SUV behind us and turn to Max.

"Who is that?" I look back and point.

"My warriors, remember I came in that SUV? I left 2 and there are 2 in that SUV. I wanted to make sure I have a link still here. Plus, I think one has a mate here he isn't admitting to because he is worried, he would have to leave her." Max tells me as we get on the main road and start towards his territory.

"That won't matter now that Lizzie has basically said we are merging." I am a little confused as to what the big deal was from the beginning.

"He is still a warrior and usually they do not want mates. They don't want to hurt them if something happens to them or be worried about them." He is watching the road as we go thru traffic. He has one hand on the wheel and one still holding my hand. He knows I am nervous. I was on my turf and had the upper hand and a Panic Room to run to when I needed. I have nothing at his place.

"I was always told Mates make you a better wolf." I say smiling at him as he takes my hand and kisses the back of it.

"Well mine does, so I don't know. I will talk to him when we get back." Max smiles towards me. I lean over and kiss his cheek. "Love you." He says as he merges onto the interstate.

"Love you too." I say as I sink into the seat and close my eyes. I thought I was only asleep for a few minutes, until I feel Max picking me up again. I open my eyes to him looking down at me.

"You hungry, my Love?" He says as he walks toward the front door. The house is massive. They call it a Palace, but it is reminds me more of the house Mr. Darcy lives in, in the Pride and Prejudice movies. Yes, it's Grand and beautiful, but not a castle. It has been in his family for generations. I nod at him as I see we are passing a bunch of people.
