POV – Laura Grace

As the elevator doors close and I see my reflection in the doors I hear him. "I take it he found out." I move my eyes to meet his in the reflection of the doors. His smirk says it all.

"Yes, and I didn't tell him." I keep as even of a tone as possible as I move my eyes away from his and to a spot on the door in front of me.

"I know." He moves his large frame to face me with his hands still in the pockets of his dark navy blue suite, that I am sure is by Armani or some custom piece he picked up when he went to New York a few months ago. I will admit, the man was nice looking, much more so than Brandon. He and I did have a flirtation and I will say he got me over my rejection more than Brandon did. Dixon made me feel confident, smart, and valued. Yes, he looked at me at times in a way I knew he wanted more than just a business relationship, but after I found Max all the feelings, I had for Dixon melted. I knew the only wolf I could be with would be Max. "Curt called me. Sarah brought him in and told him the truth about me." I can feel him looking down at me with the same smirk. It was his classic face, the one he used when he knew he was right, or when he knew someone was proven wrong due to their misconceptions of him. "Curt said he also asked about our relationship. He said Sarah tried to stop him, but the King was visibly angry." At that I looked up at him as he still smirked down at me. The man was at least 6'5', he was built the same as Max, and in some ways, they looked a lot alike.

I shifted to where I could lean against the wall of the elevator. "Well that's just lovely." I say as sarcastically as I can. "You better keep those bodyguards Sarah trained handy." I look up at him with the same smirk he is giving me.

"I don't need them, you know that. They are just for show." He lets out a small laugh as he tilts his head back. The elevator dings and the doors open to a woman standing behind a counter a few feet in front of us. There is a pergola overhead with vines crawling up the sides as white lights that look like bulbs are strung over top.

"Mr. Dixon. I was not told you were coming; we can prepare your usual if you like?" The woman behind the counter says timidly.

"It's fine Kate. We are just going to sit in a corner." He smiles at her as he places his hand on the small of my back as he always does. "Please send us a bottle with Cranberry Juice and a bucket of Ice." He walks past her as she picks up the phone.

"Yes, sir. The corner Table?" She asks nodding to the area.

"No, we will be in the back. Pergola 3, are the curtains up?" He asks stopping for a second.

"Yes, sir. Just went up today." She nods still on the phone as well.

"Perfect. There will also be another young lady coming. Her wrist says Reina on it, let her thru and tell her where we are." He nods to her as he starts to walk again with his hand on my back guiding me.

"Yes Sir." Kate nods.

I try to take 2 steps faster to get his hand off my back, to which he notices. "Wow that's a new move. Running from even me?" He moves his hand to his pocket and shakes his head. "Really Laura? If I wanted you we would have done that months ago, before you went to that meeting and found him." I falter in my steps and turn to look at him in somewhat shock. "What you think I didn't know?" He is now back to smirking.

"I didn't tell anyone..." I say weakly.

"I know, but I also know you. Before that trip to meet him, we are close, I could feel you, but when you came to the meeting a week after meeting King Edmond, you were different." He says as we get to the pergola that has deep red curtains on all four sides and only the ones in the front are tied back. Lights are strung all inside to give it a soft lit feel. There is a couch with a coffee table in front of it on one side and a mini bar area across from it with a flat screen TV. I walked inside and went to the couch and sat down. He walked to the mini bar. "We never talked about mates, I knew you were rejected of course, but you never asked me about mine." He turned and looked at me as he picked up a glass to ask me if I wanted a drink to which I nodded.
