I let the answer, begging to be let out, out with a grin, "Sure, Tor."
Tor's eyes widen slightly before allowing his gaze to meet Caspian's. Tor clears his throat and asks the greatest question in vampiric history, "How old are you?"
Everyone's eyes lock on the boy, waiting for his answer. Caspian's thin, young voice responds, "I'm 7, why is everyone asking me that?"
Everyone looks at each other in confusion, Tor asks another question, "Where are your parents then, little boy?"
Cas shrugs his shoulders, "I dunno. They left me all alone with a card that read 'Amos'."
"When did that happen, Cas?"
"Oh awhile ago. Maybe February or March. "
Tor's gaze hardens at Caspian's answer. He let's his gaze lock onto Caspian, "What year is it?"
"1962," Cas says without hesitation.
Tor's eyes light up in amusement as he laughs, "Kid, it's 2923 almost 1,000 years later."
Star's voice pulls Jinxx back, "-him?"
Jinxx rubs her eyes, to get herself to focus, she turns to Star, smiling, "Sorry Star. What were you saying?"
Star rests her hand on Jinxx's shoulder and locks her gaze on Jinxx's eyes, "I said where did you find him?"
"I caught him snatching a purse. He was wearing rags. I didn't see his eyes. Just thought I'd bring him back," Jinxx says, "On my way back from a drink..."
"Why did you need a drink, Jinxx?" Gazelle's voice pipes in. His eyes sparkling with conviction.
Her sour gaze turns on him, "Well after our chat I ran into Josiah Tucker' s look alike. His grandson. And he wanted to be a bothersome kid."
Star engulfs her friend in another hug, "I'm sorry."
Jinxx smiles, "Oh my wonderful Star. You know what they say 'Don't get too close unless you wanna get Jinxxed.'"
Caspian's lips tug up into a smile, "Hey Jinxx..."
"Yes, Cas?"
"Why don't you guys go by your names?" The boy's head tilts, tossing his hair into his eyes.
"We don't want them any more. We aren't supposed to be called our names, it makes it easier to find us."
Cas looks at Jinxx, "What should my name be then?"
Silence takes over. No one can answer that question but Caspian.
Jinxx looks over to Tor, "Make sure you take care of him. I've got things to do and places to be."
"Alright Jinxx."
Jinxx pushes her chair back. The legs scrape against the tile, attracting attention as the black-haired vamp exits the blood den.
As she looks around her heart leaps into her throat, standing just a few feet away is someone familiar. The feeling is new and scares Jinxx.
