I woke up on Monday morning and I still couldn't wipe the grin off my face. Last night could have gone so badly with him talking to my Mum and Dad but it had gone so much better than expected. I couldn't bloody wait to fly out and see him now. Get me on that bleeding plane.
Nothing earth shattering happened at work all week, and my usual Friday off I had planned to meet up with Emma. We rarely had chance to catch up in person these days. I had been busy with work and her new promotion meant she was super busy. Luckily she had recently dropped to 4 days, and both boys were being looked after so we decided to meet up for some lunch to have a proper catch up.
'So, this is cool isn't it? Meeting on a weekday for lunch, I feel so fancy', she said as we sat down at a table in a cool cafe in the town centre.
'Me too, I'll be getting all my days mixed up now!' I said shrugging my coat off and grabbing the menu jigging my foot up and down and grinning like a maniac.
'Come on Luce, spit it out before you head explodes of excitement, what's Mr Perfect done now?' she said chuckling.
'I'm sorry, am I doing your head in?' I asked feeling really silly.
'Nooo, don't be silly, it's nice to see you all giddy about a boy!'
'Ok, well, you know when he spoke to my Mum and Dad? Can I just say, mortifying! Well when we chatted later I thanked him again for like the 5th time and he said and I quote "Anything I can do for my girl". I could not stop grinning for the rest of the conversation. I haven't been able to wipe the silly grin off my face all week if I'm honest!'
'That's cute', she simply said. She seemed really off, I couldn't put my finger on it, she wasn't sharing in my giddiness.
'What's wrong Emma? I thought you'd be pysched for me?', I asked.
'I am hun, honestly. I just, I don't want to see you get hurt, that's all. Do you not think it's a bit soon?'
'Oh god yes! And I'm sure we'll discuss stuff when I'm out there. I just thought it was such a sweet thing to say and well yeah it made me giddy. He went really embarrassed!', I answered.
'Good, I didn't know how serious you were taking it', she answered taking a big sigh.
'I was just seriously giddy about it. Like I said I'm sure it will get discussed when I see him', I said smiling. I knew she was only concerned for me. She didn't want me to get hurt and I loved her for that. I just knew I was falling for Chris in a big way.
The waiter than came and took our orders.
'Listen, I do need to talk to you about something', Emma said taking a sip of her lemonade.
'That sounds ominous', I said sipping my coke.
'Ian has been asking Riley who you're seeing', she said.
'Oh has he? What has Riley said?'
'Well, obviously I've not told Riley who you're seeing. I've just said he seems like a nice guy and I can see how happy you are and that you seem back to your old self. That's all Riley has said to Ian', she said.
'Well that's good', I say leaning back in my chair and glancing out of the window.
'You really do seem so much happier Luce', Emma said pulling my gaze away from the window.
'Do I?' I ask leaning my elbow on the table and resting my chin in my hand.
'Definitely. Captain America is having a good effect on you, that's for sure.' I sighed. 'Oh Luce, you got it bad.'
