After the take off, I took my shoes off and curled up (yes the seats were big enough to curl up on!) and started reading some more of Defending Jacob. I was really getting into it, and I hoped if I read some more it may make me sleepy. I had almost 8hrs ahead of me and I wanted to try and get at least 3hrs sleep if possible.
I declined anymore champagne and asked for a coke zero. Being in first class meant that it was all expenses paid. Having travelled before I knew how much airlines ripped you off with the price of drinks and snacks on flights so I was grateful to Chris for upgrading me even more.
A few hours later...
I had managed to sleep for about 2hrs after reading a good chunk of the book and applying the lavender roll on to my pulse points and we were 5hrs in. I was now tucking into the in-flight meal which was nothing like I was used to. I had a starter, main and dessert all served separately which is so not the norm when you're normally served an in-flight meal. For starters a smoked salmon roll with cream cheese and prawns, roast chicken breast with green beans and mustard mash for main and a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake with coconut ice cream for dessert and served with white or red wine. Red wine for me. It was absolutely delicious and I was worried I would have to be rolled off the plane as I was stuffed!
After I finished the meal I curled up again and carried on reading my book. The meal and the red wine had made me feel all sleepy so I only read a few chapters before I put the book down, reclined the seat and dozed off again.
Another few hours later...
When I woke up, I checked the time and we only had an hour to go. I decided to go and use the facilities to freshen up before we started to descend. I asked Mike to get my hand luggage down and got out the necessary things I needed and headed to the bathroom.
The bathroom in first class was much more spacious which was handy as I was going to get changed. I had packed a change of outfit as I had been wearing the same clothes for almost 12hrs at this point and I felt a little grubby. I quickly changed my clothes, applying deodorant and brushed my teeth. Yes I was going to a bit of an extra effort but I didn't want Chris to see me 12 hrs post teeth brush and slightly sweaty clothes. Having said that, I think I would probably have done this regardless on this long a flight, especially with the two plane journeys. It just made sense to have a little freshen up.
I splashed my face with water, applied some light moisturiser, a quick sweep of mascara and some lip balm. I ran a brush through my hair and made my way back to my seat. I think the few hours sleep I'd had had done me the world of good, plus the freshen up had made me wake up more. Mike made his way over and offered me a glass of champagne before we started to descend. I gratefully accepted it as my nerves were starting to increase with the fast approaching reunion with Mr Sex on a Stick!
There was a little turbulence on the way down which had me gripping my seat making my knuckles go white. Luckily it didn't last for too long so I released my death grip and tried to calm down. I applied some more of the lavender roll on onto my pulse points and took some deep calming breaths. We carried on descending and soon enough we hit tarmac and we had landed in Boston.
The thought of seeing Chris in a matter of minutes made me anxious, excited and nervous. My right leg was bobbing up and down at a rate of knots and I was chewing on my finger nails. The seatbelt sign went off so I undid my seatbelt and waited anxiously to be told we could exit the plane. I expected that an added privilege of being in first class would be that we could disembark first. I was right, 5 minutes later I was carrying my hand luggage out of the plane and thanking Mike for looking after me.
I made my way through the tunnel into Logan International Airport. I followed the signs to the baggage claim and took my phone out of my handbag with shaking fingers. I knew I was nervous but I didn't realise how bad it was, I was shaking like a leaf. I turned my phone on and sent Chris a message as fast as my shaky fingers would allow.
Lucy
Landed! Just headed to baggage claim.
Chris
Just seen it flash up on the screen, once you've picked up your case head down in the elevator to arrivals and I should be opposite you as you exit the elevator. I'm wearing a NASA cap and shades ;-)
Lucy
Got it, see you soon. ARGH!
I followed the rest of the first class passengers and as we passed a screen, I clocked which baggage carousel our bags would be coming to.
We entered the baggage hall and our cases were coming through to carousel 7 so I positioned myself relatively near where the bags would start their journey. Weirdly, this was probably my favourite part of flying. I loved being in charge of collecting the cases. A loud beeping sound and the carousel starting up signalled that our cased would soon be coming through. I wondered whereabouts mine would be considering I'd been on a connecting flight, or would my worst nightmare be happening and maybe my case was still in Amsterdam.
After an agonising 20 minutes of seeing lots of other passengers collect their cases and make their way down to exit the airport, I saw my green case peep through. I grabbed it quickly, checking the tag that it was actually mine and pulled it along behind me to find the lift and go to meet Chris. My heart was racing, it felt like it was thumping out of my chest. I tried to keep my breathing under control to calm myself down but to no avail.
I soon found the lift and made my way in it with a few other passengers and we descended down to presumably the ground floor. I could feel my face was flushing, so much for freshening up, I probably looked like a hot mess right now!
Soon enough the lift doors opened and we exited the lift, I was behind a very tall guy who must have easily been 6"7 so I had trouble seeing anything in front, and being tall this rarely happened! The tall gentleman then moved over to the left, and there he was. Keeping a low profile in a cap pulled low and sunglasses, he was wearing blue jeans, converse and a navy cable knit with a leather jacket. He looked effortlessly gorgeous. He had his head down but as I moved closer he glanced upwards and our eyes connected. He made a beeline towards me with a massive grin on his face and engulfed me in a massive hug prompting me to let go of my case and shrug off my hand luggage.
'Hi', I mumbled into his shoulder taking a deep breath in inhaling his lovely scent. Oh I missed this.
'Hey darlin'', he said as he pulled away holding me by my shoulders and taking a good look at me. 'You look gorgeous', he said rubbing the back of his neck.
'Don't lie! I look like a hot mess', I replied as he took my case and effortlessly slung my hand luggage over his shoulder as he gestured for me to follow him before I could argue.
'Not possible', he simply said as he pulled my case along behind him making our way over to another set of lifts which I presumed would take us to the car park where he was parked. We soon arrived at the lifts and he pushed the down button and we patiently waited giving each other furtive glances and grinning like maniacs at each other. I'm glad I wasn't the only one unbelievably excited. Luckily my heart had calmed down considerably. He clearly had healing hugs!
The lift soon dinged and we headed in. A few people followed us in leaving us behind everyone else. He let go of my case and took hold of my hand and gave it a squeeze. I looked over at him and gave him a smile.
The lift soon arrived at the relevant floor and we headed out, Chris pointing the way to his car. We were on our own now so he took off his sunglasses and hung them on his jumper. He stopped in front of a silver Audi A6 and popped the boot, putting my case and hand luggage in. He made it look so easy, like they were made from Styrofoam.
He then turned around, pulled off his cap and grabbing my hand pulled me to him and leaned down to give me a gentle kiss. I melted into him. God I'd missed him so much!
'I really missed you', I told him as he rested his forehead on mine.
'Right back at ya darlin'', he simply replied.
