After a very long and entertaining shower, we both got dressed and headed downstairs. I still felt like I was on cloud nine having him with me for a whole week.
'Are you sure I've got you for a week?', I asked for the 3rd time that morning.
'Positive darlin', I'm all yours', he replied hugging me from behind and placing his chin on my shoulder. His breath tickled my ear.
'All mine. That sounds nice doesn't it? I like it.'
'So what do you wanna do? Did you have plans for New Year's?', he asked as I pottered around the kitchen to try and find something for lunch.
'Plans for New Years? Nah. To be honest I hate it. Never been a big fan. And I know a lot of people say its because I'm on my own but I've never liked it, not when I was with Ian, or even as a kid. There's such an expectation every year for this new year to be the best one yet. People making resolutions that they're not gonna keep and I just can't be doing with any of it. It just feels so false ya know?', I finished my rant and turned around to see him leaning against the worktop with his arms crossed making his biceps bulge with an amused expression on his face. 'What?', I asked.
'I love it when you go off on a rant. Its adorable', he said booping me on the nose.
'Oh shut up', I said embarrassed as I got the bread down from the cupboard to make cheese on toast. He simply chuckled at my reaction.
'Do you need help with anything?', Chris asked as I scurried round the kitchen in front of him.
'Um, can I trust you to slice cheese without bleeding all over the kitchen counter?', I asked with a smirk.
'You're asking for trouble Luce', he said grabbing me round the waist making me jump.
'I just don't want you injuring yourself gorgeous.'
We were soon sat down in the living room, cup of coffee in hand and some cheese on toast.
'So it's basically grilled cheese then?', he asked taking a bite.
'Well yeah, as in the cheese is on the toast and it's been under the grill. But it's called cheese ON toast here. But I put a little Worcestershire sauce on it, makes it even better.'
'Well it tastes great. There's just no end to your talents is there?', he said quirking an eyebrow at me looking devishly handsome.
'It's only a bit of cheese on toast, however I must admit, I can be a pretty good cook. Another one of those things that I wish I'd pursued properly as a teenager. I could have been the next Gordon Ramsay, just without all the swearing!' I paused as we finished lunch in comfortable silence.
There had been times when I was with Ian where they had been uncomfortable silences. But nothing felt uncomfortable about sitting here with Chris. I felt very content just sitting next to him and eating my lunch in the quiet. I looked over and smiled at him before taking his now empty plate and taking it into the kitchen.
'So, what do you want to do with your time here then?', I asked as I came back in.
'I don't know to be honest. It's just nice to be here and know that I don't have to rush off. Did you have anything in mind?', he questioned as he finished his coffee.
'Well, I messaged my Mum and Dad earlier that you were here so if you want we could see them? Nothing formal though, just nip round for a drink.'
'Definitely. I'd like to meet them. They both sounded lovely when I spoke to them.'
'Ok, well I know they're going to their friends tomorrow evening so why don't we go around in the afternoon for an hour, that way we don't have to stay too long and my Mum won't have time to tell any embarrassing stories or get any baby photos out!', I said cringing.
