I'd given Chris strict instructions to sit in the living room and relax while I cooked. He kept trying to deny it but it was very evident that the jetlag was catching up with him.
I'd left him on the sofa watching TV with a beer while I worked my magic in the kitchen.
1 hour later
'Wow Luce, that was amazing!', Chris said placing his knife and fork down on his empty plate.
I had to admit I was a pretty good cook. I'd also gone the extra mile and made the table look all pretty and lit some candles. I'd also got changed into a pretty red dress that I'd bought on a whim that had never quite fit, until now.
'It was only salmon', I replied wiping my mouth with a napkin and taking a sip of red wine.
'Well it was really good, thank you', he said as he took my hand in his across this table. 'You know Luce, this is super romantic, candles, mood lighting, you in that sexy red dress. Are you trying to seduce me?', he asked arching his eyebrow at me.
'As much as I'd like to say yes, I do think you need some sleep Chris', I said honestly.
'I'm fine.'
'Chris, I love you but you look like hell!'
'Thanks', he chuckled grabbing his left pec. 'But seriously I'm ok.'
'Look, I want to spend this week with you doing whatever we want but I don't want you keeling over from exhaustion. So it's an early bed for you tonight Mr and no hanky panky, understood?'
'Not even some panky?', he said cheekily.
'No!', I replied laughing. 'I know you tell me you don't need a lot of sleep but just have one decent night's sleep to catch up? Pretty please? We've got all week remember?'
'OK, OK. I just can't keep my hands off you. I've missed you so much Luce', he said through his long eyelashes that made me jealous. 'Plus, you look so damn good in that dress!'
'If it helps I'll wear the dress again OK?', I said standing up and moving in front of him. His arms wrapped around my waist.
'That most definitely helps', he said as he kissed my belly.
A few hours later
I was sat downstairs curled up with a blanket and a cup of tea scrolling through Netflix. After much stubbornness, Chris had conceded he wasn't gonna win and went to bed. I checked on him 30 minutes later and he was dead to the world.
I obviously wanted to spend as much time with him as possible, but I also could see how tired he was. He'd flown over the Atlantic for crying out loud. How many naps did I need when I got to Boston? I knew he was trying his best to hide it from me but he needed a decent night's sleep.
My phone suddenly buzzing broke me out of my inner monologue. Charlie was calling me.
'Hey', I sing songed down the phone.
'Hey Luce, everything OK?', she asked. I could hear nervousness in her voice.
'Yeah, everything's fine. What's the matter? Are you ok?'
'I'm fine yeah. Just, well, look there's no easy way to tell you this. Um have you looked at social media today?'
'No why, what's up?', I had to admit I was a little bit confused.
'There's some pictures. Of Chris. And you', she said sighing.
'Oh shit, you're kidding!', I said trying not to let my voice go too loud and wake Chris up.
