The next day, after taking a few bits to the post office, I sent Charlie a text to see if she was in work. Long shot but I really needed to speak with her! Lucky for me she got back to me straight away and said she was actually off today so I said I was coming round and taking her out for breakfast as I had something important to talk to her about. She didn't live very far away so I was there within 5 minutes. I rang her to let her know I was outside.
'Hey, I'm outside, you ready?' I asked after she answered.
'Yeah give me 2 minutes', she said and quickly hung up the phone.
Not long after she came running out of her front door looking effortlessly stylish. She was only petite but had such long red hair that I was extremely jealous of. She jumped in the car and we sped off.
'So what is it we need to talk about? Ooooh is it about Chris? What happened?' she asked her voice getting shriller.
'It is actually. To cut a very long story short, it is really him and he's coming over to London in a few weeks and he wants to take me out for a drink!' I said quickly.
'Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh', Charlie screamed.
'Dude, I'm driving, can we chill a little!' I exclaimed trying to keep focused on the road.
'Sorry, but this is big Luce', she said.
'You think I hadn't realised that?' I exclaimed slightly agressively.
'Yeah of course you have, sorry Luce', she apologised quickly.
As we drove to predictably McDonalds for breakfast, we chatted about the potential of drinks with Mr Evans, how to explain it to Ian if in fact I even needed to, the whole shebang.
'So, I really don't think you need to mention anything to Ian. It's none of his business, and you have been split for just over a year', Charlie said.
'That's true, I dunno I just feel a little guilty. Plus I just feel so unbelievably nervous. Take away the famous stuff, I've not been out with a guy for like 7 years!'
'Yeah I get that, well just wait and see what loverboy says, then make your decision', she said wiggling her eyebrows.
After placing our order through the drive thru and collecting it, we found a car parking space and tucked in.
'Am I in a parallel universe Charlie? Is this actually happening?' I asked.
'Yes it is, and you deserve it!', she exclaimed. 'Whether its as friends or leading to something else, you deserve a bit of fun.'
'I know, oh god Charlie, what the hell am I gonna wear?'
'Something amazing, don't worry we'll sort all that out in time. Just try and calm down until then. Not to be negative but if it doesn't happen I don't want you to be disappointed so don't get too excited until he's given you details yeah?' she said all serious.
'Yeah I know, come on, I am Mrs Negative, I went straight there!' I said throwing my hands around, careful not to also throw my sausage and egg mcmuffin at Charlie.
After we finished our breakfast treat, I dropped her back off at home, making sure she promised me that she'd help me find the perfect outfit if plans did pan out.
I spent the rest of the day adulting and picked Elijah up from school as he was having another sleepover at my house. I decided to treat him and take him out for some food, so we ended up at Frankie and Benny's (one of his favourites)
'How was school today, what did you learn?', I asked him as he tucked into his milkshake.
'Lots of things', he answered with the typical kid answer.
