The rest of the week went by in a blur. I had training every day and even though it took every ounce of my patience I was so pleased with myself. I'd got so much good feedback and it gave me a confidence boost. I was always very down on myself and had really quite low self esteem and confidence so it helped massively.

I'd arranged to go round to my Mum and Dad's on Friday night for dinner and to tell them about Boston. I was really worried what their reaction was going to be but they had to realise I was a 34 year old adult.

I hadn't had chance to video chat with Chris all week. We'd exchanged messages but we were both busy.

I arrived at my Mum and Dad's at 4pm on Friday. I'd worked this particular Friday due to training so was more tired than usual.

'Hiiiiiii', I sing songed as I let myself in.

'Hello sweetheart, we're in the kitchen', I heard my Mum shout as I took my shoes and coat off.

'Have you done a roast dinner just for me?' I asked as I walked into the kitchen. A roast chicken dinner was by far my favourite meal.

'Would it be anything else?' my Mum asked. My Dad offered me a glass of red wine but I declined having to drive home later. I was definitely opening a bottle when I got home though.

'So, I've got something to tell you both', I said between mouthfuls of food.

'You haven't been seeing Ian have you?' my Mum asked looking at me with her fork hung in mid air.

'No', I simply answered.

'So what is it?' my Dad asked.

'Well, so you know I said I was busy last weekend?' they nodded. 'Well, I had a date.'

'Ohhh a date eh? What's he called?' my Mum asked. She was such a gossip.

'Chris.' I simply said. 'Thing is um you know the Marvel films that I'm a little obsessed with? Well the date was with the guy that plays Captain America, Chris Evans!'

My Mum dropped her fork onto the plate but my Dad's face didn't flicker. It took a lot for my Dad to show excitement. He was a very laid back guy.

'You went on a date with an actor and you didn't tell me Lucy?' my Mum questioned wide eyed.

'Cos I knew you'd freak out, you did just drop your fork Mum!'

'Fair point', she replied.

'So, he's really sweet and charming, very kind and he's also incredibly handsome!' my Dad chuckled at this.

'How on earth did you meet him?' Mum asked picking her fork back up.

'Online. Now don't freak out. I'd spoken to him several times before we actually met up. And he invited me out for drinks while he was over here for some meetings. And I thought why the hell not. I deserve to go out and have a bit of fun. So we ended up spending the entire weekend together. And well he's invited me to go over to Boston and visit him at the beginning of November.'

'That's a lot of information to take in', my Dad said quietly.

'I'm sorry, I just needed to get it all out before either of you interrupted', I said directing the last bit specifically at my Mum.

'And he's invited you over to Boston?' Mum asked raising her eyebrows.

'He has. I've booked the time off work and I'm going to look at flights later when I get home.' I answered mopping up the gravy with the rest of my roast potatoes.

'Well this is all very exciting!' my Mum said.

'It is, but do me a favour. Please don't mention this to anyone. Promise?'

'Of course we won't', Dad replied with a kind smile. He really was the best Dad in the world. I was such a Daddy's girl.

'You'll be careful won't you?' my Mum asked looking concerned.

'Of course I will. He's told me to tell you that he'll take good care of me. He really is the most wonderful man.' I said feeling myself grinning like the cheshire cat.

'Well it's lovely to see you so happy Lucy', my Mum said patting my arm.

After we'd finished our food, we went into the living room and all had a cup of tea. I was really surprised they hadn't reacted badly to this news. Maybe they had finally realised I was a grown up. The divorce had been hard on them too. I can't imagine what it must be like to see your child's marriage break down.

I soon made my excuses and made my way home. I was desperate to get changed and open a bottle of wine. I was also looking forward to tomorrow night for Charlie and Emma to come round.
