I woke up to the prettiest sunrise that I have ever seen. There were pinks and blues, and the purples and oranges were so vivid. I murmured an 'I love you' before I rolled out of bed and went into the bathroom. After taking a shower, I decided to keep my hair curly and put on something cute, and I made sure Tyler was still asleep when I sneaked downstairs to decorate the living room.
Today, December 17th 2010, is Tyler's 18th birthday, and I was planning something special. He was going to be a legal adult, and even though it was a big day for him, I knew that Tyler had forgotten about his birthday... Again. Last year we spent the day at the mall, and until I told the cash register lady at Chick-fl-a that it was his birthday, Tyler had completely forgotten.
When the clock hit 7:59, I decided to whip together some marble cake batter, and it was in the oven by 8:20. I had made it from scratch, and while it was cooking I threw together some breakfast-y kinds of foods.
I decided to go ahead and put Tyler's gift on the table. It was just a very small envelope, but I knew he was going to love what I got for him.

I had just finished icing the cake when Tyler all grumble-numbly walked down the stairs.
"Good morning sleepyhead." I took off my apron and ran up and gave him a hug.
"You.. smell.. yummy." He kissed my neck and I pushed him off and laughed.
"I smell like breakfast. Now, sit at the table and eat." I was pretending to boss him around, and he jokingly sulked to the breakfast table.
"Why did you make such a big breakfast? I mean.. It's not like.. I'm hungry or anything." I giggled as I placed a plate of eggs, bacon, toast, and a little dish of jelly in front of him.
"Just eat." I patted him on the head and as I turned around to grab my plate off the kitchen counter, I heard a woosh and then I felt Tyler's arms around me.
"Yes Ma'am" Tyler whispered into my ear, and I tried to shake off the goosebumps as I grabbed my plate and attempted to turn around.
"Let gooooo." He was heavily breathing - purposely I'm sure - onto my neck, and slowly, but surely, hugging me tighter.
"That. "And he kissed me lightly on the neck. "is for making me breakfast. And that..." and he kissed me in the crook of my neck, " is for bossing me around.... But this.." And he spun me towards him and kissed me oh-so-gently." That... that was for remembering my birthday, but not telling me."
I laughed really loud this time and we went to breakfast and kept laughing at the stupidest of things.

"Okay. You can look."
We were standing on the dock next to a little boat that I rented. The owner of the boat had strung lights into the frame that covered the boat, and it looked like a boat straight out of a fairytale. I was happy with the decorating that the owner did, and when Tyler opened his eyes, I could see that he was completely surprised.
"Oh. My. Allie..." He was started to tear up a little. I went up behind him and hugged him, and he grabbed my arms and started walking forward.
"Ha ha. Stoooop."
He walked with me hung onto his back, and I attempted to waddle behind him, stuck.
When we got to the edge of the boat, Tyler turned around and picked me up and carried me on.
"It's your birthday.. I should be the one carrying you." I was being carried like his bride, and I was glad that the sun was starting to set, because my red face was harder to see without light.
