It was at the beginning of the year, right after the Stain incident. Izuku, Uraraka, Todoroki, Iida, and Tsu were sitting at their regular table. Izuku was writing in his notebooks, listening to the chatter of his classmates-friends. He's never had real friends before, not since he was four. He didn't think Katsuki counted since as he's now learning what real friends are, didn't think he counted as one.

"What about you, Deku?"

Uraraka's voice broke him out of his trance.

"Huh?" He voiced dumbly, lifting his head to look around and see the amused filled gazes from his friends.

Uraraka just giggled and restated her question.

"What was middle school like for you, Deku?"

Izuku had gotten good at hiding flinches during his ten plus years of bullying, which was how he could stifle one at that moment. Taking a deep breath and tapping into the lying skills he had to learn, he spoke up.

"W-Well," he cleared his throat, playing off his voice crack as having a dry throat, "it wasn't that good, I guess. People didn't like me, so I didn't have many friends."

Izuku didn't lie, per se, but he didn't tell the whole truth.

"What?! Who couldn't like you, Deku?! You're like the nicest person I know!" Uraraka hit her fist on the table a little too hard, causing Izuku to stifle another flinch.

"I don't know," Izuku lied effortlessly, putting a smile on his face and closing his eyes so they wouldn't be able to use them to tell it's fake, "I never found out."

He opened his eyes, and his friends looked a little awkward but convinced, so they dropped the subject, believing in Izuku's smile that nothing was wrong.

Izuku only felt a little disappointed that they didn't realize it was fake, but he smothered that feeling with the fact that he's had years and years of practice.

He just wished that he didn't have to.

Present Mic had assigned a pretty easy assignment for his English class. He told the class to pick a song that represented them, in one way or another, or a song that they can relate to, and they'd present it the next day.

On said next day, Izuku was anything but prepared, but he'd make it work. He always does.

During presentations, Izuku watched as his classmates stood up at the front, stated the song's name and why they chose it, then Present Mic would play the song.

Izuku was the last one to go, only because Present Mic could sense his anxiousness and let him go last.

"Midoriya! You're the final listener! Come on up here, yeah!" Present Mic yelled out.

Izuku took a deep breath and ignored the harsh glare from familiar blood-red eyes. He stood up at the front, holding his piece of paper, and stared out at the classroom of his friends and classmates. And whatever Katsuki was to him.

U-Uhm, I chose the song 'It's My Party', by Leslie Gore because my mom showed it to me as a child, and I've always wanted to understand my mom by trying to understand what she likes and is interested in," Izuku explained.
