The first time Izuku is paired up with Katsuki, which was only on the second day of school, he thought it was just a coincidence. They were drawing lots, so it was understandable that he thought it was random.

And even though he was the one that got hit by the blast that Katsuki decided to do, he was the one who was scolded for being reckless. For not moving out of the way in time. Katsuki got off scot-free.

That was probably when his suspicion started. When they acted like his old school. When they took the blame and put it on him, not wanting to fuck up Katsuki's chances of being a hero.

The next time was during the USJ. Even though Katsuki and Kirishima charged in at the beginning at Kurogiri, and then when he charged at Kurogiri again and was almost killed by the nomu, Izuku was still the only one out of the two of them that was scolded and yelled at.

They yelled at him for being reckless. For rushing in. For getting hurt. Yet he was the one that saved Tsu and Mineta on the ship with his quick thinking. He didn't rush in like Katsuki did, he made a plan.

Yet he was the only one that was scolded.

After those two times, Izuku decided to do what he did in middle school and just not rely on the teachers. He couldn't trust them, not that he did in the first place, but he at least thought that heroes would be better.

He guesses he thought wrong.

Several more situations like that happened. Either they paired the two together, for some reason Izuku couldn't understand, then they watched as Katsuki beat and yelled at him, and when it was over he was scolded for not going along with the plan. For getting injured. For fighting with his partner.

Or, he would do something that he thought through but went wrong and he got injured, and was scolded for it, telling him to do better, and then watching as Katsuki did something similar and got praised for it.

He was sick of it, really.

He thought that UA would be better.

He thought they would be better.

His classmates didn't care. Not really.

They just went along with what the teachers said, that Izuku wouldn't work with Katsuki and was a problem, causing them to always yell at him about how fighting his teammates is bad, how this isn't how a hero should act, how he wasn't being cool.

How if he kept doing this he wouldn't be a hero.

He shut out everyone.

He didn't talk to his friends anymore, they just sided with Katsuki, who has no idea this is going on, he's just in his own little world of ego.

He didn't talk to the teachers, they just kept pushing him towards Katsuki, and then push him away until they want him to work with Katsuki again.

He only talked to his mom, though she was very busy, she always offered him time and affection.

He also talked to Shinsou.

He was the only one who would understand since he was also bullied.

They bonded over their shared trauma, of bullying and horrible teachers, and terrible childhoods.
