It has been a while since I last had a vacation. If I wasn't mistaken, it has been months, prior to my grandmother's death. Magmula kasi no'n, I prohibited myself from doing anything of leisure. I cut doing the things I so love to do, 'cause I was so close to being depressed back then. Kaya ngayon na lang ako ulit makapagbabakasyon.
And it felt weird that the first ever vacation that I'd be traveling to again is in Baguio, where every spot there would remind me of my late grandma. Paboritong lugar kasi 'yon ni lola, dahil do'n sila nagkakilala ni Lolo kaya madalas talaga kaming maglagi ro'n noon.
I was hesitant at first if we'd push through in Baguio, but when Kael jovially announced that he already booked a hotel room, had filed his three day leave, in short, he had everything settled beforehand, I had no choice but to say yes. Besides, he doesn't know a thing or two of my reason behind my resistance to go to his preferred place, and it's better that way.
But before everything else, I made sure to settle things first. So I went to school to file my resignation which was considered effective immediately, just as I needed it to be since I'd be starting to work for Melo by next week.
No matter how lucky I was to be granted with an immediate resignation, I was too unlucky when I bumped into Cedric when I was on my way off from the University.
"Hi," he greeted right the instance our eyes locked, then he headed towards me wearing his ever present arrogance. "I heard you're resigning. Figures?"
"Better opportunity," I replied, shortly. Not in the mood to lengthen my convo with him.
Right after I responded to his query, I automatically fastened my pace. But sadly, with his towering figure, he was able to keep up with my speed in a split second.
"The clouds are dark, it seems to me that it'll rain. I think it's better if you won't mind me driving you home." He was looking straight at the path we're taking, smiling and waving his right hand at the students we happened to cross paths with by the corridor.
It was just then, I realized how dark the sky was, that anytime, it may pour its first few hard drops. How I hope it wouldn't push through, for I don't have an umbrella with me. And I wouldn't ever grab Cedric's offer. I'd rather have myself soaking from the rain, than breathing the same air with him inside his car.
"Mauna na 'ko," sabi ko bago naglakad-takbo paalis. Pero saktong 'pag alis ko mula sa lilim na ibinibigay ng dinaanan ko sa corridor, biglang pumatak ang ulan nang pagkalakas-lakas.
Kung minamalas ka nga naman, bulong ko sa sarili ko.
I decided to shield myself from getting damped and went to the nearest shed available around the campus.
"I told you, didn't I?" Cedric mumbled. He was holding an umbrella over his head as he walked toward me. "I bet you don't have any other choice, but to say yes to my offer." He placed his umbrella on the floor before drying his arms with his handkerchief.
"I'd take any offer from anyone, but never from you, Cedric. Makakaalis ka na."
The rain began to drop harder than it did earlier, so was the wind that it brought. I suddenly felt cold, especially that I was wearing a pencil cut skirt and a short sleeved thin fabric top. Wala na yatang mas imamalas pa 'tong araw na 'to sa 'kin.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Umalis ka na."
"Ok," kibit-balikat nitong sagot.
I waited for him to leave, but he didn't. He just stood in front of me, folded his arms over his chest, and watched how the dark sky dropped its every tear on the ground.
