"Good morning, Miss Vasquez. This is Anna, Mister Matteo Salazar's secretary."

"Good morning, Miss, may I know the reason for this call?"

"Yes, Ma'am. Mister Matteo's asking if you have any prior appointments or errands to attend today?"

"Would you mind if I'd ask why?"

"No, Ma'am. He wants to set an appointment with you today at 1pm. Regarding the reason, I'm sorry, Ma'am, but I don't have the whole details, for I was ordered to simply relay the message to you."

"It's okay. Kindly tell Mister Matteo that I don't have anything on my plate today and that he could expect me to be there. Thank you."

That was my conversation over the phone with Mister Matteo's secretary while I was in the middle of my fitness training and before I found myself seated on a black leather couch inside his office.

I had been here two times, the first one was when he offered me the contract, the second was when Kael and I had a petulant misunderstanding. Today was the third time, and it was only now that I was able to appreciate the elegance of his office.

Dullness had no place though everything was black. His long desk with a bedazzling glow added the feeling of luxury. I presumed his swivel chair was a customized one, judging by the broad back brace and the built in neck support.

Fragility screams in every angle of the center table placed in front of me due to its all glass structure. Soft waddings that filled the black leather couch riveted me to comfortably lay my back on it. Last thing that caught my eye was the vintage looking wall clock whose reverberated sound snapped me back to my senses.

I saw Mister Matteo beaming at me, "Shall we?" He pointed his forefingers to the tea pot placed on the glass center table.

I simply nodded my head to agree. I must have taken too much time appreciating the sophistication of his office.

"Drink this, it's Chamomile tea, my favorite." He gently pushed the saucer in front of me, careful not to splatter the tea from the cup.

"Thank you, Sir." I blew the steam off my cup and took a sip from it.

"Let me get to the point, Shimon." He crossed his legs and reclined his back on the couch, his right hand holding his tea cup. "I called you here to apologize on behalf of my daughter. That was an uncalled-for display of temper."

Umiling ako at ngumiti. "I think it's your daughter who should go hat in hand to express her profound apologies to me, Sir, for I don't accept apologies from someone who did me no harm," I frankly said.

He gave me a smile which didn't reach his eyes. "Still, I'm very sorry, Shimon." His eyes speak too much emotions but I couldn't label one. "Anyway, what present did you give my son yesterday?"

"Present po?" kunot-noong tanong ko.

Presents are given for special occasions, so why would I give Kael a present yesterday? Ano'ng meron?

He chuckled. "Didn't he tell you that it was his birthday yesterday?"

I didn't know how to react.

I wonder why he was too gregarious and unreserved, while his son's personality was on the contrary.
