"You know, Sirius, if something is bothering you, you could just tell me rather than continue to dramatically sigh every ten seconds," Evelyn said, humor filling her eyes as she watched the boy slug through the corridor beside her.
He simply let out another loud sigh, this time throwing his arm over her shoulder and allowing the weight of his tall body to rest on hers.
"Sirius, get—get off me!" She demanded through giggles, attempting to push him away, his slim, yet muscular figure not making it easy.
After a few moments of watching her struggle unsuccessfully, Sirius stifled his roars of amused laughter and hauled himself off of Evelyn, who had a difficult time keeping her look serious as she nudged him roughly in the ribs.
Sirius groaned, rubbing his side, "You are incredibly violent, Evie—aren't Hufflepuffs supposed to be sweet and gentle?"
Evelyn scoffed. "It seems that your knowledge of Hufflepuff tempers is severely limited," she told him, "Have you ever seen Holly at a quidditch match? I've never seen such a small witch filled with so much rage."
He quietly chuckled, the pair falling into step beside each other once more. As they rounded a corner and began to climb the grand, enchanted staircase, Evelyn could not help but feel the eyes of her peers locked onto her and Sirius. It was a feeling she had experienced frequently in the past few days since they camped in the Forbidden forest—it made her feel awkward and clumsy and caused a rosy blush to flood her cheeks.
Sirius had taken it upon himself to walk her between classes each day this week, which she enjoyed immensely for the most part. They already saw each other frequently throughout the day, however, their walks between classes were one of the only moments that they got to spend alone; she loved spending time with her other friends, of course, but it was nice to talk to one another, uninterrupted, even if it was only for a few minutes—the stares of her fellow students, on the other hand, she could do without.
Some wore surprised stares, others merely curious, then...then there were the stares of raging, furious jealousy.
Yes, it seemed that Sirius's vast parade of admirers were not thrilled with the increase of time the two had been spending together, and they did not keep their feelings to themselves. Groups of girls would whisper to each other as they watched them go by—some would even send her glares and make rude remarks when they saw her alone. Part of her wanted to laugh right in their faces at the stupidity of their envy, however, her introversion kept her head forward and feet moving to avoid any more unwanted attention.
"So, are you going to tell me what's wrong, or are you going to make me guess?" Evelyn asked, breaking her thoughts away from the eyes watching her.
