"Waffles are one thousand times better than pancakes, have you lost your mind?!" Holly exclaimed passionately, pointing a fork-full of syrup covered waffle pieces at Marlene.
Marlene was shaking her head in disbelief, "No way, pancakes are so fluffy and delicious! Waffles can't even compare— Ev, back me up!"
Evelyn looked back and forth between the two girls, mentally determining the pros and cons of each of the breakfast foods before coming to her decision, "Sorry Holls, but pancakes are superior."
Holly slumped in her seat and aggressively took a bite of her waffle.
Evelyn heard a small chuckle come from the redhead beside her.
"Now, now children," Lily said, teasingly shaking her finger at the girls, "No need to argue, both pancakes and waffles are delicious."
"Lily just doesn't want to take sides because she also thinks pancakes are best, but she doesn't want to hurt Holly's feelings," Marlene said, a look of victory on her face.
"Hey, that's not true! She just— perfect timing!" Holly, at the sight of her approaching boyfriend, turned the conversation to him. "Remus, which one is better, pancakes or waffles?"
It was obvious that the sandy-haired boy was unsure of how to go about answering the question. Evelyn guessed that he was more interested in pleasing his girlfriend than expressing his actual stance on the matter. One look at Holly's half-eaten plate of waffles and it seemed that Remus's mind had been made up. "Waffles, for sure."
"And, that is why you're my favorite!" Holly sing-songed, planting a kiss on the boy's scarred cheek.
"What about you Lily Pad, which is your favorite?" James asked, sliding in between the red-haired girl and Evelyn.
"As I said right before you arrived, Potter," Lily spoke, scooting away from the boy, "I am neutral in this debate."
"I love waffles!" Peter exclaimed from his new spot to the right of Evelyn.
Sirius scoffed on the other side the Gryffindor table, "Come off it, Peter, pancakes are waaaay better." Marlene smirked, reaching her hand out to give the newest member of team pancake a high-five.
Evelyn, absentmindedly poking at the scrambled eggs on her plate, was feeling astounded that she and Sirius had something in common— granted, preferring pancakes over waffles was not exactly a defining character trait— considering they were always polar opposites in everything, this was quite the revelation.
Then suddenly a blonde Gryffindor waltzed over to Sirius and plopped herself down on his lap reminding Evelyn, once more, just how different the pair were.
"Hi there, Siri," the blonde said flirtatiously, wrapping a loose strand of Sirius's black hair around her finger. Evelyn caught the eye of Marlene across the table who was using her hand to block Sirius's view of her fake gagging.
