"Holly, can you help me zip this stupid dress up?"
Evelyn, having spent the last three minutes fighting with the zipper on her back, had made the wise decision to accept her inevitable defeat and call in backup. The battle, however, had left her exhausted and out of breath, and without a second thought, Evelyn collapsed face-first onto her bed, nearly smacking into Marlene who was sat on the corner reading the latest copy of Witch Weekly.
"Evelyn Berman, I swear to Merlin if you mess up your hair—which I spent an hour perfecting, mind you—I will hex you into next week!" Lily threatened, eyeing the brunette warningly, then turning back to the mirror she was using to style her own hair.
Evelyn sat up quickly, throwing her hands up in defense, "Alright, alright! I'll be careful!"
"Here Ev, let me see," Holly said, pulling the girl toward her and zipping the dress with ease. "All done! If you would have asked for help three minutes ago, you would've saved yourself a lot of trouble."
"But I also would have lost my pride significantly quicker," Evelyn pointed out, "I refuse to be beaten by a zipper in less than three minutes."
"Yes, because getting your arse kicked by a dress in three minutes is far less embarrassing than getting your arse kicked by a dress in two minutes," Marlene chimed in sarcastically from behind her magazine.
Choosing to ignore the blonde's teasing, Evelyn rose from the bed, carefully smoothing the wrinkles out of her dress. The short sleeves of the wine-colored dress created a perfect off-the-shoulder look, and the fabric tightened slightly at the waist, flaring at the bottom and highlighting the natural shape of her curvy figure. As much as she loved spending her days in cozy, knit sweaters and leggings, Evelyn could not help but feel giddy when she looked at herself in the mirror and took in the unfamiliar extravagance of her reflection. She liked to think that she was quite comfortable with the way she looked regularly—even though she typically lacked makeup and only spent a few minutes trying to tame her wild curls—but still, seeing herself so put together and primped from top to bottom gave her confidence that she never knew was there. She truly felt beautiful.
"Look at our two little beauties!" Holly beamed, applauding at Lily and Evelyn's finished looks.
"They grow up so fast," Marlene said, pretending to wipe a tear from her eye. "Our precious little slug-clubbers!"
Lily, making good use of information found in the last issue of Witch Weekly, cast a quick spell to hold her fiery-red hair in place, doing the same to Evelyn, who nearly choked on the mist of liquid that shot from the wand. "So, how will you two girls be spending your Saturday evening?" Lily asked the pair who were lucky enough to not be invited to Slughorn's party.
"This," Marlene answered simply, looking quite comfortable from her position on the bed.
Holly seemed to be thinking about her answer, "I'm not sure, actually. I suppose I'll probably go bug Remus for a few hours—the usual."
