As December came around, the focus of the students at Hogwarts began to waver. The Christmas holiday was only weeks away, and there seemed to be far more interesting things to do than sit inside and tackle mountains of homework.

There were snowball fights to partake in, holiday plans to share, and gossiping to be had about who would be meeting who under the mistletoe.

All of these December distractions left the library looking quite bare, but as per usual on this frosty Thursday afternoon, Evelyn found herself spending her free period surrounded by books and "studying" with the youngest Black.

The word studying was used lightly, for, no matter how good their intentions, Evelyn and Regulus's conversations always seemed to stray from potions, and today was no exception.

"So, their singular purpose is to float?" Regulus questioned, looking rather astounded.

Evelyn chuckled, finding the similarities between Regulus and Holly's reactions to the same revelation to be humorous. "Yes, the sole purpose of a rubber duck is to float— well, some squeak too, I suppose— but they mainly just float."

Regulus leaned back in his seat, shaking his head slowly, "Man, muggles are... something else."

"Watch it, your pureblood is showing," Evelyn teased, earning an obnoxious eye roll from the dark-haired boy followed by a grin that let her know he was only joking as well.

His eyes moved to the open potions textbook on the table, his fingers tapping lightly on the wood as he skimmed the page. Evelyn, taking notice of his actions, followed suit, reading through her pages on Felix Felicis. She did not make it far, however, for only a few minutes in, her study partner no longer seemed up to the task.

"I'm bored," Regulus groaned, slamming the book shut, and leaning back into his seat once more.

"You know, it amazes me that you're so good at potions, because I don't think I've ever seen you once actually finish your homework," Evelyn spoke, trying to feign a disapproving look, but failing miserably as a giggle escaped her mouth.

"If I'm so good at potions, then why do I even need homework," he countered, shrugging his shoulders casually. "But, for the record, I do always finish my homework eventually. It just takes some effort to beat my serious habit of procrastinating."

"Well then, perhaps we should try to kick that bad habit and finish our work Saturday after the quidditch match?" Evelyn suggested.

"Can't— Slug Club," Regulus said, looking less than enthused. It was no secret to Evelyn that the Slytherin hated old Slughorn's elite club gatherings— in fact, it seemed that no one who attended the events actually enjoyed them. Lily had mentioned dreading the dinner parties several times, but she, like Regulus, would feel too guilty rejecting the Professor's invitations.
