"Merlin, that sounds terrible! To get into the Gryffindor common room the Fat Lady just makes us repeat a password to her. I think I'd rather sleep in the Forbidden Forest than have to give a damn portrait all the juicy details about my personal life." Marlene said, biting the head off a chocolate frog. "Not that I have actually have anything juicy going on in my life, but still, it's just the whole idea of it."
Evelyn nodded in agreement, taking a swig of the pumpkin juice she had purchased from the trolly.
The day was beginning to fade, streaks of pink and orange painting the clear sky as the Hogwarts Express was now inching closer to its destination.
Evelyn's journey had been far more enjoyable than anticipated. Lily and Marlene gave her all the details about Hogwarts as she listened intently, wanting to be as prepared as possible when entering the school's doors. They spoke of the Great Hall where all meals were held, including luxurious feasts during Holidays; the Halloween feast seemed to be a favorite among the students.
They talked a great deal about their house, Gryffindor, as well. Evelyn wanted so dearly to be placed into the same house as her newfound friends, however, the more the girls mentioned about the house and the traits that one needed to possess to be sorted into it, the less confident she felt about her wish coming true.
"Gryffindors have always been known to be the brave ones, not really caring about the consequences of what we are doing so long as we are passionate about it." Marlene had said earlier in the train ride. "We tend to be quite confident as well, which can either be a good or a bad thing depending on the situation, but we're the best house and everyone knows it."
Evelyn did not feel that she truly possessed any of the qualities of a Gryffindor, but not wanting disappointment to ruin the rest of her ride, she pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind.
As the journey was coming to an end, Lily had left the compartment to join the other prefects in preparing for the arrival, and Evelyn and Marlene changed from their everyday outfits into their school robes.
Evelyn's robes lacked the Gryffindor crest, and her tie was solid black compared to Marlene's scarlet and gold. At Ilvermorny, all students wore the same robes no matter which house they were in, so this was a bit odd for her.
As she looked down at her bare robes she felt butterflies in her tummy, anxiously wondering what crest would be added to them at the end of the night.
Aside from Gryffindor, the only other house that the girls had discussed in depth was Slytherin, and from how they had described it, Evelyn knew that was the last place she wanted to be sorted. Lily had briefly mentioned Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, but did not speak of their defining traits.
Surely, one of those houses would be suitable for her, right?
"Hey," Evelyn spoke, drawing Marlene's attention away from the tie she was knotting and up to the anxious brunette. "So, what's the sorting ceremony like at Hogwarts?"
