"Would you consider cereal to be a soup?"
Evelyn's eyes darted up from her parchment and landed on Holly. Most of her small body was on the mattress of her bed, but her head was hanging off the side, upside down, short hair being pulled down by gravity.
"Huh?" Evelyn with a furrowed brow, desperately trying to understand how this could be relevant to the charms homework they were both supposed to be finishing.
"I mean, it's a liquid with edible pieces floating around in it. That makes it a soup, right?"
"But, it's cold," Evelyn said pointedly, shifting her body, which was stomach-down on the floor.
Holly shook her head, "That doesn't matter, cold soup is a thing. Look it up." she countered, pointing her finger matter-of-factly as she spoke.
Evelyn dropped her quill and continued to ponder the question, "Okay, well even if soup can be cold, there's still the fact that cereal and milk are two separate things. The cereal itself is just the dry part so technically—" Evelyn stopped herself quickly, realizing that now she was contributing to the distracting nonsense that Holly had been partaking in for the past half an hour, "What does this have to do with charms? Our assignment's due first thing tomorrow, Holls!"
Holly groaned as she straightened her body back into a sitting position, the blood rushing from her head back down to the rest of her body. "I know, but charms is just so boring! It's like every time I look at the paper, I almost fall asleep!"
Evelyn chuckled at her friend's dramatic nature, "I told you I would do your assignment for you if you would just stop distracting me for an hour so I could finish it in peace." She still felt that she owed Holly for writing her herbology essay a few weeks ago.
"I know, but who else would I bug for an hour?" Holly questioned, attempting to blow her bangs away from her eyes as she spoke. "Zach's off doing god knows what with Jenna, and Marlene and Lily have a late astronomy class tonight with Sinistra. YOU'RE ALL I HAVE EVELYN BERMAN!" she bellowed theatrically, reaching her arm out as if attempting to grab Evelyn but coming up just short.
Evelyn giggled, reaching out her with her hand to connect to that of Holly. "I'm flattered, but I still need just one hour of silence, then you are free to harass me all you want."
"Deal," Holly finally agreed, breaking free from Evelyn's grasp and moving over to the high window that just barely peeked above the ground surrounding the rest of the dormitory walls. She pulled a wooden stool over to the window and climbed on top of it, staring through the clear glass. "I'll just be up here... watching the stars... studying the constellations... being quiet..."
"Good Holly," Evelyn praised teasingly, turning her attention back to her assignment.
To be fair, Holly did seem to be putting in her best effort to stay silent, but alas, some habits are hard to break.
