The uncomfortable awkwardness was painfully obvious between Evelyn and Sirius as the pair roamed aimlessly down the cobblestone streets of Hogsmeade, a good three-foot distance between them. It had been over ten minutes since the two had been left by their friends to explore the snowy village on their own, and they had yet to speak more than a few simple sentences to each other. Conversation between them had flown effortlessly the night of their detention, but, this afternoon, it was like pulling teeth to find a topic that would interest both of them.
Evelyn felt silly as she thought of the emotions the raven-haired boy had stirred up in her that night in McGonagall's classroom. How could she be so stupid to think that she had feelings for a boy in which she had absolutely nothing in common with? And, how ridiculous it now seemed that she had at one point considered that Sirius might have shared those feelings.
Though, finally on common ground, the two were still polar opposites in almost every aspect of their lives; Sirius was outgoing and confident—Evelyn was shy and constantly second-guessing herself. All of the girls at Hogwarts practically threw themselves at the grey-eyed Marauder, and Evelyn still had yet to be kissed by someone—well, not counting the kiss she shared with Regulus, seeing as that had been forced onto them.
The few similarities Evelyn had thought she noticed between the two the other night were now fading, and she and Sirius seemed more contrasting than ever.
As the pair were about to begin their third loop-around of the village, Evelyn's patience was growing thin. She had been anticipating this trip for weeks, and the last thing she wanted was to waste it.
"Can we stop in Honeydukes for a bit?" she asked, halting in front of the teal and pink display windows of the sweet shop. "I haven't been before and I was wanting to check it out."
Sirius looked slightly startled by the sudden broken silence, but quickly fixed his expression.
"Yeah, sure," he agreed, sounding nonchalant, though it was obvious that he was thankful for the suggestion. Boredom never was something that sat well with the boisterous Gryffindor.
As soon as Sirius agreed, Evelyn was pushing through the door to the shop, desperate to escape the agonizing dullness of her current situation.
She had to push quite hard on the old door as it stuck a bit at first, but once she got it open, a small bell jingled above her head, announcing the pair's entrance. Immediately upon entering the checker-floored shop, Evelyn's nose was filled with the wonderous scent of melted chocolate and home-made toffee. Huge glass jars lined the colorful, wooden shelves, filled to the brim with sugar quills, Fizzing Whizzbees, Bertie Bott's every flavour beans, and more. A few third-year Ravenclaws were gathered in the corner, watching with anticipation as a freckled girl with tightly-curled hair ripped open a small box housing a chocolate frog, and to the group's dismay, yet another Dumbledore trading card.
