Evelyn watched as Sirius stirred the bubbling cauldron in front of him, waves of steam radiating off of the boiling mixture. A single drop of each of their blood would finish off the potion and then one month—one month until their dreams no longer faded away with the arrival of morning light.

It was strange how different things were now compared to the last time they were here. The memories weren't exactly ones that Evelyn wanted to remember. Her relationship with Sirius had been rocky in their dreams—even more so in real life, but her relationship with herself had been perhaps the worst out of all of them. Negativity and a lack of self-worth had held her back from so much just months ago, but now, she refused to allow it to stall her any further. She was finally in a place in her life where she truly felt like she belonged. So much had changed, and she was grateful for every bit of it.

"Are you ready, darling?" Sirius stood across from her, holding a small sewing needle in his hand. Evelyn squirmed as she hesitantly held out a finger toward him, squinting as he drew the sharp tip to her skin. Unsurprisingly, the prick only stung for a moment, leaving her to feel slightly embarrassed by her child-like fear. She watched as Sirius repeated the action on his own finger, a small bead of red seeping through the wound. His eyes met hers, giving a small nod of confirmation before they each held their fingers over the cauldron, letting the blood drip into the steamy mixture.

Within seconds the potion was changing, the murky brown liquid shifting to...purple? No, that wasn't right—the potion should turn blood orange, that's what the book said. "What's going on, Sirius?"

His eyes scanned the recipe, searching for the step they must have missed as Evelyn remained focused on the potion that was now a deep blue color.

"I-I don't understand. We followed the directions perfectly!" Sirius shook his head as the potion morphed yet again. "Why isn't it working?"

"Are you sure we didn't forget anything?"

"Leeches...fluxweed...werewolf fur...it's all in here!"

Evelyn's brows furrowed at the failed potion. It didn't make any sense, they did everything the same as last time. "We have extra ingredients, let's just try making it again—"

"It won't work."

She stopped dead in her tracks as the words filled her ears. That voice didn't belong to Sirius.

Slowly, Evelyn turned her gaze to her boyfriend who was already looking directly past her, his eyes wide with curiosity. And it was no wonder, for when she followed his line of sight, Evelyn was met with the hollow, sharp face of a woman who looked to be no older than thirty. The tone of her skin was pale, her dirty blonde locks were contained into a neat bun at the nape of her neck. Her attire was perhaps the strangest thing about her appearance. The dull gray fabric of her dress fell all the way to her ankles, leaving no skin exposed to the open air. A small, worn apron wrapped around her waist and a matching bonnet sat atop her head. She looked to be straight out of the 18th century.
