Lisa was left in disbelief. "What did you just say?" she asked Janet, her mind racing.

Janet sighed, "Michael asked me who you are."

Lisa clenched her fists, her frustration and confusion growing. "Janet, did you inform the doctor about this?"

Janet shook her head. "I don't think so. They didn't tell us anything about it. He woke up and then fell back asleep, so none of us knew anything about state of his brain."

Frustrated, Lisa sat down in a hospital chair. "We need to talk to his doctor. This is unbelievable."

Janet nodded. "Let me go find my mother." She entered Michael's room and offered an excuse for her absence to Katherine.

Lisa paced back and forth, the weight of this revelation pressing down on her. Michael not remembering their relationship or the time they'd spent together was a devastating thought.

Katherine and Janet eventually returned to Lisa. Katherine asked, "What's going on? What did you find out?"

Janet sighed, sharing the grim news. "It's worse than we thought, Mom."

Katherine looked concerned. "What do you mean?"

Lisa, her stress evident, couldn't contain her agitation and frustration, walking back and forth. She was overwhelmed by the sudden change in their circumstances.

Janet glanced at Lisa and her mother. "Michael's memory loss is severe. It's as if he never met Lisa before. We needed to tell you because we're going to see his doctor."

Katherine took in the shocking news and felt deeply for Michael. "Oh no. Poor Michael. Go to the doctor. I'll stay with him. Lisa, just try to calm down. We'll find a way through this."

Lisa, full of anxiety, gave Katherine a warm hug before following Janet and the doctor to Michael's room.

When the doctor revealed Michael's condition, Michael appeared stunned by the news of his marriage. He glanced from Lisa to his doctor, utterly perplexed. The doctor explained the situation and what tests they had conducted.

"We've conducted blood tests and brain pictures," the doctor informed him. "You've been in a car accident with your wife, Lisa, which led to your memory loss. We'll provide a referral for rehabilitation and a specialized diet."

Michael stared at Lisa and then back at his doctor in disbelief. "My wife?"

Lisa, who had been standing at the door, watched as Michael processed this revelation. The weight of the situation weighed heavily on her. She longed to comfort him, to tell him everything would be okay, but she understood that his memory loss would not be easily resolved. With a heavy heart, she left the room, unable to bear the sight of his confusion.

Janet called out to her, urging her not to leave Michael in this state. Lisa turned back to her sister with teary eyes. "I would never abandon him. I won't leave him, but I can't handle this right now. I thought when he woke up, we could slowly return to normal, but now, I just don't know what to do."

Her stomach churned with anxiety, and she rushed to the nearest bathroom. Janet followed, her worry evident.

"Oh dear, I'll go get help," Janet said, noticing Lisa's distress.

A nurse arrived to assist, asking Lisa about her condition and whether she had eaten anything. Janet was tasked with fetching water. After Lisa stopped vomiting, they took her to a nursing room to ask a few questions and decided to conduct blood tests. The results were not good.

The doctor recommended that Lisa start eating normally and provided her with a diet rich in iron and vitamins. Janet took her back to her apartment, despite Lisa's initial refusal.

In her apartment, Janet helped Lisa to bed. It didn't take long for Lisa to fall asleep, and Janet stayed behind to prepare some food for her.

When she's done, she walks quietly to the room where she's sleeping and wakes her up.

"Lisa, wake up" she shakes with her gently, causing her to wake up immediately.

___

Two weeks after Michael's discharge from the hospital, Lisa couldn't shake the persistent morning nausea that plagued her. Every day, before Janet arrived with Michael at their apartment, she found herself in the bathroom, holding her breath, waiting for the results of a pregnancy test.

The first test she took was positive, leaving her in disbelief. She decided to take another one, still not quite convinced. But the second test confirmed her suspicions – it was positive as well.

Lisa was overwhelmed with a mix of emotions – excitement and fear. She knew that telling anyone about her pregnancy would make an already complicated situation even more challenging, so she decided to keep it a secret for now. Her top priority was to support Michael as he struggled with amnesia.

On that particular morning, as she was in the bathroom with a trembling hand, she looked at the positive pregnancy test. It was a clear sign that her life was about to become even more complicated.

Janet entered the apartment with Michael, their conversation coming to a pause as she sensed something was wrong. Lisa quickly hid the pregnancy test behind her back, glancing at Michael before addressing Janet, who had a suspicion in her eyes.

"Lisa? Is something wrong?" Janet asked, sensing Lisa's unease.

Lisa swallowed hard, forcing back tears, and replied, "Nothing, I'm going to work. Can you stay with him for a while?"

Janet raised an eyebrow but didn't push any further. "Of course, I'll stay with him."

Lisa quickly left the apartment, leaving behind a confused Janet.

Michael glanced at Lisa's leaving figure and then at Janet, his confusion evident. "Well, is she alright?"

Janet shrugged, her brows furrowing. "If you could remember anything, I'd suggest you ask her. But for now, we'll have to wait."

Michael sighed, his memory loss weighing on him. "I just wish I could remember."

Janet sat beside him. "We all do, especially Lisa. She cares a lot about you."

Michael offered a gentle smile. "I can see that. She's a remarkable woman."

Janet nodded in agreement. "Yes, she is. Just don't hurt her, or I'll have to hurt you."

Michael chuckled. "I promise I won't. She's too extraordinary to harm."

As they settled on the couch, Janet recommended they watch a movie to pass the time.

"Okay, but you pick the movie," Michael said.

Janet stood up. "Sounds good. I'll be right back. I need to use the bathroom."

As she entered the bathroom, Janet couldn't help but notice a white stick lying on the sink. Her curiosity got the better of her, and she picked it up. Her eyes darted to the trash can, where she spotted two boxes of pregnancy tests. Janet's gaze lingered on one of the positive tests, and then it all became clear.

"Oh my..." Janet whispered, realizing why Lisa had been so upset earlier. The discovery left her in shock.
