Priscilla, her coat slung over a nearby chair, entered her home after a business meeting with John. The weariness of the day was evident on her face as she made her way to the mini bar. With a sense of routine, she poured herself a glass of gin with tonic, the bubbles effervescing in the glass.
As she sank into the plushness of her couch, a familiar ring interrupted her moment of relaxation. With a knowing look, she glanced at her phone and sighed. "David, I told you not to call during my relaxation hours," she chided, bringing the glass to her lips.
"I know that, Priscilla. You don't have to remind me. Listen, remember what I asked you about?" David's impatience echoed through the phone.
Priscilla took another sip before responding, "Since when are you so impatient? Yes, I remember, but right now is not the best time to approach her. She's dealing with her own issues. If anything changes, I'll let you know. However, I can't guarantee how she'll react."
"Okay, just remember, I'm patient, but my patience has limits," David warned, his tone firm before abruptly ending the call.
Priscilla rolled her eyes at the conversation. "What a waste of time," she muttered to herself, finishing her drink with a decisive gulp. Setting the glass aside, she headed to her bedroom, seeking solace in the quiet promise of rest.
**Lisa's POV**
Janet sat on the bed, her expression mirroring shock as Lisa unfolded her story. "Holy fuck, Lisa. If he learns about it, you can forget about his trust," she uttered, her disbelief palpable.
Lisa, her emotions spiraling, paced the room. "You think I don't know that? Not only that he will hate me, he left me right now, so I can only imagine his reaction if he learned what you now know. He would divorce me, Janet." she confessed, her voice breaking.
Janet stood up, sighed, and reached for Lisa's arms, holding her firmly. "Calm down, Lisa. The fact is, you were vulnerable, and Daniel should've thought with his brain, not with his dick," she said, attempting to bring a semblance of calm to the storm of emotions swirling within Lisa. "Also, the fact you told me says a lot. He doesn't have to know unless he learns it from Daniel, it won't fix anything."
Lisa pushes off Janet's arms, frustration etched on her face. "You are his sister. Why do you want to defend me? I should go after him and actually tell him everything. About Daniel, about me talking with him, and letting him work at my company."
Janet took a deep breath, trying to think. "No, I think you both need some time alone. You just have to focus on business here. I'll help you if you need me, and Mike will take care of things at your company and his. If needed, I will contact him, and when the time comes, you both can just talk it out. Especially you and him need—"
Her words were interrupted by a knock on the entrance doors. Lisa and Janet exchanged glances, Lisa opened the door slowly, revealing two bodyguards.
"Hello, ma'am. My name is Rex, and my partner Frank. Your husband, Michael, hired us, explaining your need for security," Rex explained.
Lisa looked confused, glancing at Janet for guidance. "I guess since my husband explained... well, do you need something?"
Rex nodded, slowly walking into the apartment, with Frank following suit. Frank placed a small silver suitcase on the desk in the living room, opened it, and began setting up security measures.
"Frank will secure this place. We will also come with the help of the driver that Michael hired. I know him, and I'm sure you will be satisfied," Rex assured.
Janet eyed Frank with interest, earning an eye roll from Lisa. "Alright, how are you going to secure this place?"
Rex led Lisa to Frank and explained, "Cameras, but don't worry, no recording of sounds. We will simply put two cameras for the entrance and living room," he rushed with the explanation, sensing her worried expression.
Lisa looked at Frank setting up the cameras and sighed. She turned to Rex. "What now, you'll walk behind me like last gorillas?" she blurted out without thinking. "Excuse me, I shouldn't have said that."
Rex smiled gently. "It's fine. We've been called worse stuff. But no, we will try to be invisible to you."
"Oh, I hope not for me," Janet protested, starting to get along with Frank.
Frank grins at Janet's remark. "No worries, ma'am. We'll make sure you don't even notice us most of the time." he assures Lisa.
Rex and Frank continue their work efficiently, setting up the security measures in a way that blends seamlessly with the surroundings. Meanwhile, Lisa and Janet watch the process.
Once the security installation is complete, Rex approaches Lisa with a calm demeanor. "Ma'am, we'll ensure your safety and privacy. If you ever need anything or feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help." he gives her his business card.
"Thank you," Lisa mumbles, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of Michael and the security measures. She walks to the kitchen, leaving Rex and Frank to finish their tasks.
Janet follows her, sensing Lisa's inner turmoil. "You know, this might be a good thing. It will give you some space and time to figure things out without constantly worrying about safety."
Lisa looks at Janet, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and despair. "I just want everything to go back to normal, but I'm not sure, it ever will."
As the bodyguards finalize their work and assure Lisa of their presence, the apartment takes on an unfamiliar aura—a blend of heightened security and the weight of unresolved emotions.
"I think I might call my mother and explain I will be at company this evening. I want to take my mind off of this whole mess." Lisa says, walking out with a glass of water.
"Sure I might start talking to your gorilla" she smirks walking back to the living room.
Lisa nods, appreciating Janet's attempt at lightening the mood. "Alright, just let me know if you need anything. And be nice to them; they're here for our safety, not just mine."
As Lisa makes her way to the bedroom to call her mother, Janet engages in a casual conversation with Rex and Frank, finding some amusement in their profession and mostly is interested in one of the bodyguards, Frank.
In the bedroom, Lisa dials her mother's number, hoping for some words of comfort and wisdom in the midst of this chaos. The weight of recent events lingers in her mind as she waits for her mother to answer.
"Hello?" she says with boredom
"Hi mom, I will be at company in the evening, so you can have some free time." she says while dressing up
"That's nice, how are things between you and Michael?" she asks curious
Lisa gets tense "Why you ask?"
"Well, I'm your mother, don't forget about it. So?"
Lisa takes a deep breath, feeling a mix of frustration and sadness. "Mother, things are complicated. Michael and I had a big fight, and he's not home right now."
Her mother's tone turns concerned. "Oh dear, what happened? Do you want to talk about it?"
Lisa hesitates, unsure of how much to reveal. "It's just... trust issues, misunderstandings. It's all a mess right now."
Her mother sighs on the other end. "Relationships are never easy, sweetheart. But you and Michael have been through a lot together. Maybe it's just a rough patch. Have you tried talking to him, explaining how you feel?"
"I... I don't even know where to start," Lisa admits, her voice shaky. "There's so much going on, and I don't want to make things worse."
Her mother offers some comforting words, "Take your time, dear. But remember, communication is key. Possibly, once things calm down a bit, you can have an honest conversation with Michael. And don't forget, I'm here for you no matter what."
After the call, she takes a moment to gather herself before heading back to the living room where Janet, Rex, and Frank are engaged in conversation.
