People around make Lisa uneasy, but Michael's presence offers some familiarity, even though it's something new to her. Michael tries his best to keep her steady, meaning not a lot of alcohol gets into her system.
"Michael, I'm not a child," she whispers to him as some business people walk past them.
"I want to talk to you after the ball, so I want you to be fully aware," he says as he notices some people he knows approaching. Lisa realizes it's David Miscavige.
"Hello, Michael, and Lisa," David greets them with a handshake. Michael's face registers confusion, and he briefly looks at Lisa, who avoids his gaze. "Hello, David. Sorry, but I just saw my mother and John, and I need to talk to them," she says, walking away and giving Michael a stare to indicate he shouldn't follow her.
Michael keeps staring at his wife as she walks away, but David distracts him by getting in his face. Michael doesn't like David; he knows he's someone who gets what he wants without caring about others. Learning that David knows Lisa makes him suspicious of his intentions toward her.
"You keep staring at her. I understand," David says as they both look at Lisa, who gives them glimpses as she talks to John and Priscilla.
"Do you dare to explain how you know my wife?" Michael asks sternly.
David smirks. "I do know her, not just from her official side but her unofficial one too. But don't worry, not in that sense," he laughs loudly, making sexual remarks and slapping Michael's shoulder, makes him annoyed to the core.
Michael feels his blood boiling. He walks away from David and goes to the bathroom to wash his face with cold water.
Lisa sees the whole event but tries not to interrupt Priscilla's rant. When John notices Lisa's lack of response, he says, "Priscilla, I will go get us a drink." Priscilla stops talking and nods.
"Mother, what is David doing here?" Lisa seizes the opportunity of her silence to ask.
Priscilla takes a drink from John, sips it, and then says, "Well, he is a family friend."
Lisa frowns. "Whose family? Because definitely not mine," she says without thinking. Priscilla notes that in her head, sipping her drink.
Lisa walks away without saying anything, heading to the bar and sitting down. She asks for a martini, thinking she's somewhat safe from the "snake people." However, David soon walks up and sits quietly beside her at the bar.
"How do you enjoy the ball?" he asks with a little smirk on his face.
Lisa breathes deeply. "It's not bad, knowing who is who. So, what are you actually doing here?" she asks, finishing her martini in one sip, feeling the alcohol slowly relaxing her and easing her anxiety.
"Your mother invited me, but since you want to know," he ends his whiskey and stands up close to her, "I like to know things about people, especially those who get in the way," he says, looking at Michael, who is coming out of the hallway and into the room.
Lisa gives David a look. "You think he and I have anything in common?"
David shrugs. "Maybe possibly, I don't know yet. See you at the church, Lisa Marie." He smiles unpleasantly and walks away.
Michael walks up to her and sits down, asking for a drink. Lisa is confused since he never usually gets nervous around people. He always tried to make others believe in his perfect image.
"I thought we were supposed to stay sober?" she says sarcastically, asking for another drink.
Michael scoffs, a little smile on his face. "I thought we were angry at each other?" Lisa giggles.
