"I THOUGHT I'D FIND YOU OUT HERE." his words did not surprise you. you had noticed his sleepy stare following you around from his bed as you got ready for the day. well, you were up way before the sun had even risen every day, and you generally got up to get ready before the boys. just a precaution so they couldn't bug you or play pranks. you had made your way through the soft grass of the fields quietly so the boys inside would not wake. you quickly found yourself sitting on top of the tool shed out by the gardens, (which gally didn't know you did- and if he ever did you'd be in trouble.) it was your signature spot where you watched as the sky slowly began to change colors. black faded slowly as a strong navy blue dominated the sky.

you hummed in acknowledgment, finding the quiet glade especially peaceful. he carefully sat beside you and your head naturally found his shoulder, using him as a pillow. you felt like you could relax for once. the gladers (besides you two) were still asleep, the weather was still crisp from the night before, and the breeze was gentle, brushing the leaves of the tall trees in the deadheads. watching the sun rise in the morning fueled you for the day.

no words were exchanged between you two as the sun slowly started making it's way up to its rightful spot way up in the sky. the blues disappeared quicker as the sun was just about past the maze walls. you waited, hardly blinking, as the sun rolled into the perfect spot. the light hit an angle where it shined over the whole glade, brightening the deadheads and chasing away any stray shadows. you always thought the deadheads were the perfect spot for the passed, as they were greeted by a warm light every day, even if they weren't there to see it.

flashes of pinks and golds mixed with the fluffy clouds above you, and you couldn't help your smile. you just knew the adorable boy beside you was smiling too, watching the life come to the home they had built and worked after. you liked that about him. he was probably the only one who would wake early to watch the sunrise even though he had a lot of work to do for the day and could use the sleep.

grabbing his hand, you took a deep breath of the fresh morning air. you closed your eyes, leaning more into newt for the remaining minutes of calm. though it didn't last long at all, as a loud 'rise and shine' came from the homestead, loud calls of annoyance following. you giggled, recognizing gally's voice urging everyone up. newt chuckled to, rubbing his thumb over your intertwined fingers.

"let's get to work- preferably before gally goes ballistic."

he sighed when you moved to get up from your comfortable spot beside him. you ran your fingers through his fluffy blonde hair and he pressed a lingering kiss to your cheek before helping you two off the shed and towards the rest of the gladers.
