"I THINK IT'S SAFE TO SAY I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING." you groaned out in pain as you fell, hitting your head against the muddy ground. your bike crashed beside you, effectively crushing your leg under its weight. there was a moment of silence as you fought to catch your breath after being winded by your bike after it hit the tiniest pebble in the trail. you forced your hands to support your stomach as you pushed yourself up, heaving and kicking the bike off your thigh. you felt very uncomfortable after that fall, little rocks digging into your exposed skin.
you managed to roll yourself onto your back, sighing heavily as you gazed up into the bright blue sky. the trees were tall, seeming to stretch up inwards, sheltering you from the hot sun. all signs of life had long ran away from your loud crash.
"h-holy shit!" you heard heavy footsteps trampling through the bushes and the squeaky voice of a prepubescent teenage boy. you figured he had saw you fall and came to assist, which you were thankful for, but you had to admit, the sudden voice in the silent forest almost make you scream yourself.
a scrawny figure shuffled out of the foliage, standing on the hill you fell off of, looking down at your pathetic lump of a body. you managed to raise your hand, halfheartedly saluting your savior. he seemed to be about your age, a bit taller, with ruffled reddish-brown hair and blue eyes full of astonishment. it made you raise a brow, watching him watch you.
"not to state the obvious, but i could use your help." your tone was sharp without meaning to be, your narrowed eyes watching him like a hawk as he snapped out of his daze and stumbled down the hill, sliding against the dirt and sending some flying against your already muddy shorts. you should of normally cared, but given the circumstances, you let it slide.
"o-oh yeah, s-sorry," you picked up his stutter immediately, but didn't say anything. it was most likely a personal thing, and he probably got comments all the time. if he noticed, he didn't say anything, but you could've sworn to see a relieved look on his face. he scrambled up to you, gripping the handlebars of your totalled bike and hauling them away from you. you felt a pang of annoance at the thought of not having a bike to get home with. having the room to move, you shoved yourself up in one fluid motion, immediately feeling the ache all over your body. your hands brushed furiously at the dirt on your once clean clothes.
"so... are you okay?" the boy seemed extremely nervous, awkwardly staring at you as your head snapped up. your mouth opened to retaliate in sarcasm, but you decided against it and posed for a more friendly approach. the boy was pretty cute. you hadnt seen him before, but you generally kept solitary, and you had only moved to the small and creepy town of derry a month prior. instead you dramatically extended your hand in a 'hold on' motion.
"yeah, i should be okay." you composed yourself, a childish glint in your eyes as you saw his face turn red in embarrassment. it was quite cute, you had to admit. taking a glance at your bike, you winced. of all things...
"c-could i help you get back to y-your place?" he asked timidly, scratching the back of his neck. you weighed the option carefully before nodding. you would just have to endure an hour long rant from your p/g about bringing boys home, even though you didn't know him. you felt like you could trust him, he looked way too small to kidnap someone, but you kept your guard up anyways on the walk out of the forest, just in case. he did show up out of no where in the middle of the forest, so.
"i didn't catch your name?" you questioned once you made it to the road, dragging the bike along behind you. you bad a slight limp, but it was okay to walk on. he looked over, his fluffy hair swishing in the breeze. you smiled slightly, feeling suddenly shy.
"uh, my name is bill."
