"CHARLIE, YOU WILL NOT MAKE ME PUT THOSE DEVIL SHOES ON." you crossed your arms in defiance, leaning against the wall by the door. charlie was trying to get you to learn how to rollerblade so you could go skating even during summer. but, besides being an excellent skater on the ice, rollerblading was not your strong suit. the first time you tried to rollerblade, averman tripped you by accident and you fell into a thorn bush. from that day you declared never to ever go again.

"oh come on, y/n. averman was a horrible teacher. i wont push you into a thorn bush, i promise," he pouted, giving you puppy dog eyes as he nudged your f/c rollerblades over to you. staring at him for a second, you let out a dramatic sigh, grabbing them from him. charlie was too cute to say no to. he let out a cheer and quickly laced his up, while you took your sweet time just to annoy him. when you finally had to stand up, you were a bit nervous.

"here," he extended his hand, noticing your worry. you reluctantly gave it to him, standing up. it was sort of like standing on skates, except for a lot more unsteady. you couldn't help but laugh dramatically at your situation.

"i'm going to die."

CHARLIE WAS PRETTY GOOD AT ROLLERBLADING, so it didn't take long for you to learn. after a while, it was as smooth as skating, and you learned what to avoid and how to stop (albeit accidentally crashing a few times.) it was actually pretty fun, and you were laughing as you messed around, learning tricks that you would later show to the rest of the ducks.

the sun was blaring up in the sky, bright blue skies above and the puffy white clouds sparse. the floura and fauna were in full bloom, elegant flowers in every lawn like a competition. it was hot, for sure, and you often stopped to rest in the shade under a tree in the park. charlie showed you all his normal routes, and the fastest ways to get to everyone's houses with rollerblades. you travelled all around town, playing in the parks, going through the mall, speeding through the alleyways, and you even stopped by courts to say hi to jessie.

after a few hours, you started to get hungry, so charlie offered to stop by his mom's diner. she always gave you two free milkshakes because you were basically family, so you agreed and made your way there. by that time your feet were aching, so you felt relieved to sit down.

"that was so fun!" you grinned, sitting at the counter with charlie as his mom was making the milkshakes for you. he looked tired, but excited for a shake.

"i told you so!"

"yeah, well, i'm sorry that averman pushed me in a thorn bush last time," you rolled your eyes playfully. "plus, i didn't think you could go so many places with rollerblades on."

charlie noddedin thought, glancing up as his mom placed the two glasses in front of you. your eyes lit up at the f/f milkshake, taking a sip as he grabbed his.

"thank you, ms. conway." you smiled at the older woman. she was always so nice to you and your friends, and you could see where charlie got his soft side from. his mom was like your mom when you were over; always checking on you, helping you out with school, and driving you to practices.

"of course, y/n. i see charlie was finally able to get you out today," she grinned, eyes flickering to her son, who gave her a glare, his cheeks warming up. feeling like you were missing something, you glanced between the two. after a moment of silence, his mom rolled her eyes, reaching over the counter to ruffle his hair before heading into the back.

deciding against asking what she was on about, you finished your milkshakes, talking about hockey and school, and your new teammate adam banks, the usual. you couldn't help but admire your best friend, because you had a slight crush on him. you never said anything just to make sure your friendship was safe, but sometimes you couldn't help your stare, or blush.

"what?" he asked, noticing your staring.

"oh- uh, nothing?" you miserably failed to cover yourself, as a blush crept up your neck.

he shook his head, finishing his milkshake and heading behind the counter to wash his and your dishes. after that, it was almost your dinner time, so charlie offered to go with you to make sure you got there okay. you accepted and started on your way home. by now you were a master at rollerblading, and you took all the fun ways home, charlie showing you the best routes and collest areas for tricks.

by the time you got to your house, you started feeling sad, knowing he had to leave. you didn't let your frown show, but you could tell he was a bit sad too, as he sighed when you reached the door.

"thanks for teaching me how to rollerblade today, charlie." you grinned, wrapping your arms around him in a hug. the boy returned it, resting his head on yours which made your heart do a back flip.

feeling a burst of confidence, you assume, charlie kissed your cheek, his cheeks flaming. your eyes were wide, your own blush evident on your face. feeling flustered, you gave him another quick hug and rushed inside, your heart racing.
