IT SEEMED LIKE LIFE WAS FINALLY AT PEACE FOR ONCE. it would not be for long, as inevitably something would happen that would throw her entire life into a spiral as it usually did, but she had to stop and admire it for what it was. sitting cross-legged atop the roof of the impracticality large family house, which she was honestly quite ambivalent about, she closed her eyes, letting her other senses take over. she could hear sounds of small mammals scuttering about in the bushes a hundred yards to the left of the house, multiple creeks and rivers flowing from the east borderline, and the wind whistling through the tree branches. she could smell lavender and pine mostly, the scents enhanced from the rain hours prior. but most of all she could sense fresh blood pumping through the viens of a herd of deer by the cliffside, and she could almost feel the pounding heartbeat in their chests, making her throat itchy. she swallowed, pushing the hair-raising thoughts from her mind just as someone jumped up to the roof. she did not flinch, she had heard their approach and the sound of their light footfalls hitting the roof. her eyebrow raised, but when the sweet scent entered her nose, a smile pulled at the corner of her lips.

leaning her head back, she caught the sight of her mate standing there, her eyes going soft at her gaze. the two stayed silent, a subtle conversation passing through their stare, but it only lasted a second, and no mere mortal would have picked up on it. the pixie-like girl fluttered over to sit beside her, her steps light and almost untraceable.

"you know, you never have to worry about the future," alice cooed, lacing their hands, making an amused smile creep up on her face, knowing the hidden meaning that was oh-so-obvious behind her words. deciding to let alice win, she nodded, leaning into her touch as if she had been gone for years. it was always like that to her. she missed alice's company way more than she would like to admit.

hearing a snort from inside the house, her eyes narrowed, thinking of thoughts no other being would want to think of besides herself, making all noise halt. she smirked, resting her hand back to lean on, a generally human gesture, but she was relaxed, gazing up at the sky in thought.

alice's gentle hand began weaving her fingers through her hair untangling the knotts, making the girl let out a content sigh.

her senses were no longer of the lavender, or the flowing water yards off, but of the girl sitting next to her. her scent, her touch, even her presence was enough to throw the girl off, making her vulnerable. but it was a good kind of vulnerable, one she liked.

with a simple sigh, she leant in closer to her soulmate.
