Chapter 25: Miles To Go.

"Don't give up now, think about your wishes, we will accomplish them and make new memories. Together." Maybe that's what he had whispered to her.

Stop day dreaming, Elsa!

She slept on the hospital bed with a frown on her face that clearly showed how much disturbed and in pain she was from all that was happening around her. The nasal cannula was tickling her nostrils and was very annoying that she just wanted to pull it out and all the syringes inside of her were like cherry on top. For the first time she felt tired of all of this.

She couldn't talk, she couldn't sleep peacefully, she couldn't eat properly, she couldn't even sit let alone stand or walk. She had been inside this hospital room for almost a month and a half. It was almost like she had forgotten how to smile or laugh. Everything happened in such a short span.

She opened her dim eyes and they once again like any other day met with the white ceiling and the smell of chemicals and medicines greeted her nostrils. A nurse was there to greet her with a genuine smile but now she couldn't even smile back as she just turned and closed her eyes again.

A lone tear escaped the corner of her eye, it trickled to the bridge of her nose and cheek and soon was absorbed into the white pillow.

That was her daily routine now. Her cheeks had lost their usual pink color and were pale, her usual soft and pink smooth lips were chapped and almost blue. Her eyes had started to look sunken and her cheek bones were more prominent.

"Hey Els... How are you?" Eugene came once again with a new set of flowers to exchange the old and dry flowers in the glass vase placed on her bedside table.

She didn't open her eyes nor did she turn around to see him, her fists tightened around the covers that she held close to her chest. "Elsa?" Came his voice once again but she still didn't give him any reply to which he only sighed and kneeled down on the titled floor in front of her.

His long fingers were dancing in her platinum blonde hair. He leaned in and kissed her forehead, a tear slipped her eye followed by another and more, a painful sob escaped her lips.

"Elsie, my baby sister... What's wrong?" He wiped her tears but they kept coming more.

"I... I-I'm so-o... ti-tired..." She spoke in her raspy, scratchy voice, her voice fading in between.

"I'm so... so t-tired, I-I wanna go ho-me. Plea-se Eugene, I wanna go-go back home." She cried harder looking into his eyes. He took in a breath, wrapping his arm around her as he rubbed tiny soothing circles on her back with his thumb.

"Ok, I'll fill the discharge form and we'll go. How does that sound?" Eugene smiled warmly down at her, she nodded her head, finally her eyes looking hopeful and a little less dim.

"No more crying, okay?" She nodded her head once again wiping her tears and gave him a quivering smile, he smiled back kissing her forehead.

Eugene stood up from the tiled floor and walked outside, his smile turned into a frown. He rubbed his eyes with his back resting against the close door, "What do I have to do to save you, Elsa?"

He walked through the corridors and to the reception area. There he met with at least three guys with flowers, cakes, balloons and many gifts, they were asking to meet Elsa Rose Winters. They were still in their NYPD uniform as they joked and laughed with the nurse standing behind the reception counter.
