THE FATHER and son tandem was a headache. They were both mischievous and always gets their way. Pinagkakaisahan pa siya ng dalawa. Xavi was extremely energetic around his father, and she's happy for her son.
"We need to get back to work," paliwanag niya sa anak.
Grant was standing near the door. He was quiet while looking at them talk.
Xavi pouted. Nilingon nito ang ama sa pintuan. There's nothing she could do about it. It's work. He's never demanded to her about this, only this time.
"All right," Grant said. "I'll take you to work today."
Nilingon niya ito. She looked at him in awe. That won't do. People would surely ask questions about him. It would surely cause another trouble.
"You know you can't do that," she said and faced him. Tumayo siya at lumapit dito. "The people doesn't know about his existence. They---"
"Of course," he cutted her. "Because you hid our son. Ako nga kahapon ko lang nalaman." He looked at her with anger in his eyes.
Natigilan siya dahil doon. His words were full of bitterness and hurt. Hindi agad siya nakahanap ng isasagot dito.
She shook her head. "This isn't the right time to talk about that," she looked away. "You can't take him in your office."
"I can, Dani. Trust me, I can. I wouldn't hide him just like what you did."
"I don't have any choice, okay?" She bursted out, anger evident on her face. "You want me gone back then! Ano'ng gusto mong gawin ko? Bumalik pa ako sa'yo? I have Leukemia! I almost died carrying him. Fighting for him! Sa tingin mo ba may oras pa ako para isipin ka? Ni wala nga akong pakialam sa sarili ko noon. Okay lang na mawala ako. Mabuhay lang ang anak ko!" Her tears fell one by one. "You didn't know what I've been through. So don't act like you suffered more than I do. Don't act like you know everything and what's the best for my son. When all you had with him was just one night."
She walked out and went downstairs, her tears kept on falling on her face. She heard Xavi calling her but she didn't look back. She was too hurt because of his words. She will surely break even more.
"Hey," Grant grabbed her arm before she could totally leave the house. He made her face him. "I'm sorry, okay? I just want to spend some more time with him. I want to know him. I know what I said was out of line. I'm sorry." Hinila siya nito at niyakap.
She cried in his arms, just like before. When she felt him kiss her head, that's her cue to push him away.
She looked down on her son. Kinuha niya ito at binuhat. "I'm sorry for being too emotional," she whispered on his ear.
"Did Daddy make you cry?" Xavi asked in his innocent voice.
"No, baby." She answered and shook her head.
One thing that she wouldn't make her son do was to hate her father. Not even when she got hurt and suffered a lot. Hinding-hindi niya iyon gagawin.
Xavi looked at her intently. He was reading her if she's really telling the truth. She smiled at him to reassure him that she's fine. Kids these days grow so fast and became mature at such a young age. She's afraid that Xavi would be like that too. She wants him to enjoy his childhood. He's still too young to understand everything anyway.
