Time was passing faster than I would've liked it. Before I knew it, I was starting a new school year, and moved out of my dorm room. A group of friends asked if I wanted to be their fourth roommate, to which I agreed. One of the girls in the apartment hit the parent lottery, considering that her mom was a surgeon, and her dad was a top-notch lawyer. Cherry on top was that she was an only child, so most of their money was going towards her. Since they were the nicest family ever, they offered to pay for a majority of the utilities in the apartment, which I did not fight with them about.
I hadn't really been back to Lima. Over the summer, I mostly spent it up here in Michigan, settling in to a new job I got at a local coffee shop. I traveled down for one week, but spent most of the time inside, with my family. I had heard that Sam had also returned to Lima, and I just wasn't ready to face him yet. The chances that we would see each other were slim, but based on my karma from the world, it wasn't completely off the table.
But it was time that I moved on. Not just with trying to find a new boyfriend, but trying to move on with my life. Sadly, I hadn't really been keeping up with everyone else from McKinley. Everyone except Brittany and Santana, who tried at any waking moment to remind me of how in love they were. Most of the time it was sweet. But when I was eating a tub of cookie dough in my bedroom, alone, it was annoying.
After getting back from the gym one day, I hurried toward my bathroom to wash off all the grossness and sweat that had accumulated during the workout. My phone began to buzz, and I saw that Santana was calling me after picking it up. Answering it, I made sure to get the first word in. "Hey Santana. I'm just about to pop into the shower, so can you make it quick?"
"Okay Queen Bossy Pants. If you want to make it all about you. I just thought you should hear the news: Brittany and I are engaged."
I nearly dropped my phone down the sink. My jaw dropped to the ground. "Are you serious?!"
"Yes, I am dead serious."
"Oh my god. Oh my god! Oh my god, I'm so happy for the both of you! Wait, why didn't you tell me that you were going to propose?!"
"How did you guess that I was going to be the one proposing?"
"I guess I just couldn't picture someone else proposing to you. Plus, I don't even think Brittany would know what to do or say."
"I guess that's kind of true. But I wanted it to be a surprise for not only her, but for you. And speaking of you, I kind of have something big to ask you."
"If I think I know what you're about to say, can you give me one moment to brace myself?"
"Yes... you can brace yourself."
I grabbed a hold of the towel rack, and sat down on the toilet. "Okay, ask away."
"Mallory, will you be our maid of..."
"YES! A thousand times yes! Oh my god. Wait, why are you asking me? Isn't there other people that you're closer with?"
"Well, I can't stand most of the people from McKinley, even if I say that they're tolerable. Mercedes is already singing in the procession, and Quinn's got some secret Yale event that weekend, so she can't make it."
"Speaking of, what is the proposed date so I can jot it down on my calendar?"
"Uh yeah. It's February 20th."
"Huh? Are you serious? That's in about two months."
"Yeah well, we want to get married before it possibly becomes illegal again."
"Alrighty. Well, it is officially marked on my calendar. And I will make sure to schedule that I get there a few days before then so that I can fulfill all my maid-of-honor duties." Placing my planner back down, I sat down at my desk to really get a grip on what just happened. "Santana, I'm so happy for the both of you."
