Watching TV now was practically difficult to watch. Sue had somehow made her way onto the Congressional ballot, and was going in hard on her opponents (wanky). Even Kurt's Dad was a candidate, and he was getting ripped to shreds. Apparently working at a tire shop automatically means that you sexually assault cars? For the most part, when those ads would come on, I would just look at my phone or read or something.
Most of the time, I was checking to see if Nick had texted me back yet. We had gone on one date at a mini golf place up near where he lived. It was a little difficult with him living about an hour away, but we still managed to talk about every other day.
I thought it was slightly strange that we were having Troubletones rehearsal in the auditorium, but I just assumed it was so we could start getting used to the stage. They announced that since two groups are coming from the same school, it would only make sense to have the competition here. But what I found stranger was the New Directions walking in at the same time as us.
"What are guys doing here?"
"Shelby told us she wanted us to have rehearsal in here. What are you doing here?" We made sure to keep our distance from each other. There was a large gap in between the two groups.
"Mr. Schue said the same thing."
"Let me guess, he wants to combine choirs for Sectionals. Well it's not going to happen." All of the Troubletones rolled their eyes and shook their heads at the possible request. The whole reason we left was because there were too many of us to showcase. "The Troubletones are here to stay. So why don't you shuffle your busted choir off our stage." Santana didn't have to be that harsh about it.
"Look, you guys, we can compete without being enemies." I could feel an inspirational Finn speech coming on. "Alright? We don't have to get vicious."
"Oh I think we do Soft Serve." Santana began to walk closer and closer to Finn, causing him to tense up. "See the Troubletones are 3Fs: fierce, femme, phenomenal... ." Wait, I don't think that's correct. Because if it's three F's and phenomenal...
"Wait you guys, hurry up and get some moist towels. We have to keep Finn wet before we roll him back into the sea."
"Okay you know what Santana? Finn is in great shape, and your meanness only highlights your personal insecurities."
"And Rachel, your mustache is thicker than a Middle Eastern dictator's."
I could tell Santana was starting to get heated, and who knows what she could do when she gets super heated. Before things could turn physical, I heard faint guitar playing from behind me. I turned and saw Mr. Schue strolling out, playing his guitar as Ms. Corcoran joined in singing on the other side of the stage.
~You And I/You And I (sung by Mr. Schue and Ms. Corcoran)~
"Mr. Schue, Shelby, I think we can all admit that that was weirdly amazing. But what was the point exactly?"
"That sometimes bringing two conflicting things together can create something totally unexpected."
"We're not combining Glee Clubs Mr. Schue."
"That's not what I'm talking about. Shelby and I agree that with Sectionals coming up, we think it's time to get into the spirit with some friendly competition."
"Each group's going to put together their own mashup to put head-to-head."
"For the first annual McKinley High Mash-Off."
We all began cheering. I'm sure both sides were thinking that this was the moment they would finally get to shut the other team up with. I agreed. I mean I think it was important to show the New Directions what using all your talents means. Some girls were already thinking of some inspiration. Everyone liked my suggestion of trying to stick with powerful women as our artist. I mean that was the basis for our group. We quickly headed back to Ms. Corcoran's classroom to get ready for this Mash-Off.
