The Christmas season was finally here, my favorite time of the year. As soon as the Thanksgiving dishes were placed in the sink, I was climbing up to the attic to bring down the Christmas decorations. Something I didn't do that was out of the ordinary for me was that I didn't finish my shopping early.
Due to the fact that I didn't really have a stable income, I had to begin working more time at my mom's bakery to make enough money to buy gifts. I did love working there and frosting cupcakes was so fun, but having to resist trying to eat all of the sweets everyday was getting harder and harder.
Coming into school, Brittany stopped me before I could make it to my locker. She was clearly in the Christmas spirit, from her Santa hat and large bag of presents that were slung around her shoulder. "Mallory, here are the keys to your brand new Audi A6." Brittany held out a pair of keys, wiggling them in front of my face. I couldn't move my hands to grab the keys out of shock. 50% of me was ecstatic that I just received a brand new car. But the other 50% was extremely doubtful that she actually had bought a new car for me. For all I know, Brittany could've found these keys laying around a ditch or a garbage dump.
"Brittany... I can't accept this."
"Well you're going to have to. Besides, you should try to get all the driving you could get out of it since you're not going to be able to in a few days." Was that some kind of threat? Was Brittany going to kill me and then keep the car to herself? "If you want to go see your car, it's located in the back parking lot with a big bow slapped on top of it. Merry Christmas!"
Brittany then turned back around, handing out more expensive-looking gifts. She couldn't be serious right? There wasn't any way that she had actually gotten me a new car, right? I guess the only way to know was to go look.
Halfway towards the parking lot, I stopped in my tracks, thinking, "What am I doing?" But I still pressed on, giving myself a 50/50 chance of having a good day or not. As I turned the corner towards the parking lot, the first car parked was a white Audi, topped with a bright red bow.
My mouth dropped to the floor. I clicked the unlock button on the keys to make sure, and sure enough, I heard the car doors unlock. Opening up the door, I sat down in the driver's seat to take this all in. I was sitting in my brand new car. And I didn't even have to pay for it. I guess having really good, rich friends was starting to pay off.

Brittany had texted the entire Glee Club to meet up in the library later. And considering what she had done for me earlier, I would've gone to any kind of meeting she wanted to hold. She didn't specify what we were going to talk about, but her text was kind of harsh.
Once we all settled in, Sam and Brittany took their places in front of everyone. They both had a slightly serious look on their faces, which was quite rare for the two of them. "You guys, welcome to the first meeting of the 2012 Mayan Apocalypse Club." I'm sorry, what was happening right now? Did she just say Mayan Apocalypse Club?
"Wait, that's what this is?" Tina asked.
"Don't worry, it's also the last meeting," Sam said solemnly.
"Because we're all close, Sam and I wanted to bring you here so we could finally tell you our true feelings about you. Tina, acting is kind of a pipe dream for you, and your decision to pursue it as a career is both irresponsible and shocking. Joe, you haven't really made that big of an impression on me, and I don't really know what your deal is. Ryder, your hair kind of weirds me out because it reminds me too much of a girl while your face is quite manly. Mallory, most of the time you speak up and talk, it's quite annoying and I want you to just shut your face."
