Cecilia slid her delicate fingers over the fabric of the dress that was hanging against the bedroom closet and smiled - the satin material was ever so soft and slippery, yet cold against her finger tips. The slip dress was in a beautiful ivory colour and Cecilia was only minutes away from sliding it onto her body. She walked up to the bedroom mirror and eyed herself, smiling as she took her hair brush and brushed through her long blonde hair. She felt beautiful as she looked at herself, even as her make-up was rather simple and her hair was only done into soft beachy waves. She still felt like the look was perfect for the day that was going to be the most important day of her life - her and John's wedding day.
More than two months had passed from that spontaneous proposal of John's, a proposal that came so out of the blue and baffled Cecilia at first, yet now seemed to make all the sense in the world. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to become John's wife, even as they decided not to tell a soul about their decision to get married. Perhaps they were afraid of how everybody would react and maybe even try to talk them out of it, but more than anything, they really just believed that they were doing something that was completely for the two of them and nobody else. So why bother telling anyone and try to explain that they didn't want a wedding and only wished to be in each other's company on that special day? Cecilia and John figured that there was no point and later on, once they felt like it, they could tell their loved ones and maybe even have a separate party for them if necessary. For now though, the only thing they had was a court date set for today and that was really all they needed.
Cecilia didn't feel nervous in any way, she felt excited and completely at ease in this moment she was in. She slid on the dress and walked to the room's opened window - it was a sunny day, one might even say that the weather was rather hot considering that temperatures were high and had been for the past few weeks. A regular thing for Los Angeles in the month of August. But Cecilia didn't mind. A soft breeze travelled into the room through the opened window every now and then and let her know that once outside, the weather was in fact just perfect.
And just as Cecilia was standing in front of her and John's bedroom window and thinking about the fact that she and the love of her life are going to be husband and wife in just a few hours, her fiancé was doing the same thing just a couple of rooms away from her. Cecilia and John had jokingly decided to at least follow somewhat of a tradition and spent the night prior to today in separate rooms and also agreed to get ready completely on their own. Neither of them knew what the other was about to wear or look like and that was probably what one could count as their attempt to add some more excitement and mystery to the day.
"Babe, are you going to take long?" Cecilia suddenly heard John from the hallway, "I should order the taxi if we want to get there on time!"
"No, I'll be down in a minute," she answered as she eyed the tiny clock on the bedside table. John was right - if they wanted to get to the courthouse on time they really should get going.
She took a final look of herself in the mirror, fixed her pink lipstick a bit and smiled. She was ready. She was ready and she was happy. Ready to marry the love of her life, something she thought she would never even be able to do. And as she headed out of the room she quickly grabbed her purse and shoved her camera into it as a final touch. What is a wedding day without some pictures, right?
Cecilia then exited the bedroom and headed downstairs, the smile on her face never fading, even stretching bigger as soon as she saw John waiting for her in front of the stairs. He was wearing a white collar shirt with the sleeves rolled up a bit (after all, it was hot outside), proper black suit pants and a pair of black shoes. His hair was short, in his natural dark colour and Cecilia could see that John had even tried to put some effort into making his hair look neat since it appeared to look even a bit spiky. She found it adorable and swooned over the fact that John had decided to keep his stubble, because he knew how attractive it was to Cecilia.
