August 2003

"Baby, I need to go. The flight is boarding," Cecilia smiled to her cell phone as she strolled around JFK airport, "I'll see you in a few hours, alright?"

"Alright. Can't wait."

"Me neither," she smiled again, "I love you."

"I love you, too. Have a safe flight!"

"I will. Bye!"

"Bye!"

Cecilia ended the phone call, the mentioned smile still plastered all over her face and a sensation of butterflies tingling all over her stomach. She slipped the phone back into her purse and grabbed her passport and her boarding pass and made her way to the gate.

The Chilis were in the middle of their By The Way tour and Cecilia was heading out to yet another one of her visits. This time, she was flying out to Ireland, where the guys were set to perform at Slane Castle and for what Cecilia had heard, it was going to be huge – the tickets were all sold out and everybody was expecting a huge turnout, not to mention the fact that the concert was being filmed for a DVD.

So, considering all these fancy details, Cecilia thought that she would go and see for herself what all the commotion was about and perhaps even take a few photos of the gig while she was at it. And besides that, she had some news.

She had some very exciting news and she had no idea how John was going to react.

Cecilia took a seat at the airplane and made herself comfortable, the smile never fading from her lips and her heart still beating in anticipation. She and John hadn't seen each other for at least a month and all she wanted was to feel his arms around her and kiss his lips and see his gorgeous smile again. They had become used to spending a lot of their time apart, but it always came down to these final hours that seemed to be the most excruciating. For some reason, it was always easier to accept that she was going to see him in two weeks rather than twelve hours and Cecilia always knew that she was going to hate those last few hours stuck in a plane or a car or wherever she happened to be.

But yet again, those horrible hours were the ones that always made their moment of reuniting worth the wait and so very sweet. It was just the way their life had turned out and she wouldn't have had it any other way.

A lot of things had happened ever since the Hawaii trip and the Californication tour and even as Cecilia usually spent her time travelling sleeping or reading a book, she couldn't quite bring herself to it this time. Well, at least not yet considering that it was a twelve hour flight. Instead, she stared at the sky and the clouds and thought about the last few years of her life together with John and all the things they have experienced together and it made her feel an overwhelming sensation of happiness. Perhaps it was about the point they were at now despite all the struggles, or perhaps it was about something else, but in all honesty, Cecilia didn't even care. All she cared about was the fact that she was finally so very happy. And the fact that the person she loved so dearly was also so very happy.

The Californication tour proved itself to be a growing experience for the both of them, making their relationship even more solid and even more stronger. Cecilia witnessed John grow into the musician and person he had always wished to be and how he had finally managed to intertwine his inner world with his responsibilities and find the balance he had such trouble achieving in the past. He was free from the doubts and the guilt and he knew the reason why he was put on this planet – to make people feel good and that was all he dedicated himself to and that was all he cared about.

If he wasn't touring with the Chilis or in the studio with them, he was working on his own solo music and even released his third album not too long ago. Cecilia had no idea how he always managed so much with such little time, but she never bothered herself too much with it. It was the way he was and once he was at it, there was no stopping him. If anything, that was the magic touch that made John the person he was and Cecilia couldn't help but to love every bit of that mad scientist side of him.
