Very late at night, after we'd fallen asleep in my bed, I felt the matress move. I was pretty much still sleeping, but conscious enough to crack my eyes open and see you standing at the foot of my bed, with the light of your phone casting blue shadows on your face. You only wore boxers. I felt at home with you, sleeping in my bed, half-clothed in my room. Like, this was meant to be forever, the way seeing you made my heart swell.
Your phone vibrated, and worry flashed on your face for a second.
"Hello?" you whispered. "Yeah. Yeah."
I pretended to be asleep.
"You bet I would."
You smirked. My breath almost hitched, but I stopped myself.
"Ten minutes."
I wished I could hear the other person, to soothe my worries a little.
"Leave the door unlocked, okay?" You sounded happy to leave me. You hung up.
You started coming over to ny side of the bed, and I was sure you'd kiss me goodbye on the head in my sleep, at least, before you left. That would've made me a lot less anxious.
You skipped that completely, grabbing a Post-It off of my nightstand. You scrawled a quick note, and you left me, just like that.
