MARK SLOAN WAS SEATED ON THE BARSTOOL IN THE KITCHEN. WHILE lexie grey was preparing breakfast for the family. mark was scrolling through his instagram feed, seeing every post his friends made, but piano keys and a soft angelic voice caught his attention, making his ears perk up. lexie was too concentrated in cooking to hear
mark stood up and quietly walked over to the familiar room "cause when you said jump, i said how high? but when i jumped, you said goodbye i woulda walked through hell to find another way i woulda laid me down if i knew that you would stay i woulda crossed the stars to keep you in my life but now i'm falling hard without you here tonight" the voice was soft yet through it you could hear a sense of pain, the tone of keys played softly before the same voice spoke up "without you here tonight" the keys stopped, silence echoed the room
he stepped closer and poked his head in, he seen his oldest daughter write in her journal. he smiled softly, as he leaned on the wall "what's this one gonna be called?" he spoke up
maeve's head turned to see her father, she smiled softly "walked through hell"
he nodded slowly "let me guess, this one about dean too?" he asked
maeve chuckled softly "well, this is what happens when you get your heartbroken...you write down your feelings and you turn them into songs" she shrugged
mark playfully rolled his eyes before pushing himself off the wall, and walks over to his daughter. he takes a seat on her bed, getting himself comfortable. she furrowed her brows as she see's him grab her lavender blanket and wrap it around himself "sing for me" he says simply
"what?" she chuckles nervously
"sing to your old man" she was about to speak up but he lifted his finger "it's a figure of speech, i am very much still young"
"okay mark, whatever you say" she mocked as he hit her with her stuffed bear
she chuckled softly before playing the all too familiar keys on her piano "i've been watching you for some time can't stop staring at those ocean eyes bur—
mark cut her off by hitting her again with the stuffed bear "not that one" he mumbles knowing his daughter wrote that for dean when the two made 4 years together
"summer after high school, when we first met we'd make out in your mustang to radiohead and on my 18th birthday, we got matching tattoos used to steal—
"wait, wait, wait. you got a fucking tattoo" mark immediately straightened up. his eyebrows furrowed "wait, you guys started dating in senior year, you were seventeen" he said before doing the calculations in his head "eight months into a relationship and you two decide to get matching tattoos? are you fucking kidding me? where?" he starts questioning. she stayed quiet "maeve carolyn sloan! where!" he raised his voice slightly
"on my hip" she whispered as she looked down to her hands
mark's eyes almost popped out "is this why you didn't let me stitch up your upper thigh when you accidentally cut your— oh my god... and jackson knew this whole time. i am so going to kill him" he sighs
"how about i get back to singing?" she says nervously before playing another set of keys "loving you, i thought i couldn't get no higher your november rain could set the night on fire, night on fire but we could only burn so long counterfeit emotions only run skin deep know you're lying when you're lying next to me, next to me how did we get so far gone?" she sung as mark was glaring at her
"i should know by now you should know by now we should know by now something's gotta give, something's gotta break but all i do is give, and all you do is take something's gotta change, but i know that it won't no reason to stay is a good reason to go is a good reason to go" she sung a bit of the chorus before turning to mark for his opinion
"wow. what's this called?" mark asked
"something's gotta give" she said with a soft smile
mark nods before speaking up "so what kind of tattoo did you get?"
