AFTER THE BRIDE AND GROOM DANCE, IT WAS TIME FOR MAEVE'S SPEECH. she was fiddling with the paper in her hand, charlie glanced over and held her hand "hey, they're gonna love your speech, don't be nervous" he says, giving her a reassuring smile
"maeve?" a voice spoke up from the middle of the venue. maeve sloan immediately glanced up from their interlocked hands to where derek shepherd stood with the microphone in his hand after finishing the best man speech
maeve took a deep breath before standing up and meeting her godfather. she felt everyone's eyes on her as she walked across the middle of the venue "you got this honey" derek assured her before handing her the microphone
she turned to face the bride and grooms table, mark could easily see the amount of nerves his daughter was feeling so he sent her a head nod for reassurance "usually stepmoms have the reputation of being unpleasant and mean, but that is not the case with lexie" a smile couldn't help but make its way up to lexie sloan's lips "from the second i met lexie i could tell she was the complete opposite. she is the most kindest and most genuine person i've ever met" next to mark sloan, lexie could feel tears start to well up in her eyes "to me the idea of a stepmom was unsettling before lexie came into my life. but now that she's here, i've never been happier and more excited for a stepmom as perfect as her. gaining lexie is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. she changed my life and my dad's for the better. i could see the happiness that she brings my dad and i'm so happy that he found this person that makes him happy. to me family is not only define by last names or by blood. it's define by love and commitment, even though lexie is not my mom by blood, i know that she'll always be there whenever i need her because from the moment i met her, she always stuck by my side through thick and thin. and because of that i have always thought of lexie as part of my family, but today i am so happy to finally be able to call you officially my stepmom"
with her last sentence spoken, lexie sloan immediately stood up from her seat and made her way to engulf her stepdaughter in a hug. a few tears rolled down her cheek as she embraced the green eyed brunette "i love you so much, maeve" lexie gushes in admiration
maeve couldn't help but finally let a few of her tears roll down her cheeks "i love you too" she grins. before the two could pull away, they both felt arms around their shoulders. maeve lifted her head slightly only to see that it was her father joining in on the hug "i'm really happy for the two of you"
it was later in the evening when both maeve sloan and charlie gillespie found themselves on the dance floor swaying to the song hunger by ross copperman "have i told you how beautiful you look?" charlie questions with a grin as he looks into her green eyes
