𝙰 𝚈𝙴𝙰𝚁 𝙻𝙰𝚃𝙴𝚁 𝙰𝙿𝚁𝙸𝙻 𝟹𝟶, 𝟸𝟶𝟷𝟿
MAEVE LET OUT A GROAN AS SHE felt two feet jump on her bed, along with a pillow hitting her face
"wake up! wake up!" the first voice squealed as she continued jumping
"rise and shine princess" the second voice called out as he pulls on her blanket
maeve felt a body drop right next to where she was sleeping. she opened her eyes to see her little sister holding the biggest smile "happy birthday sissy" sofia chuckles as she wraps her hand around maeve's neck and plants little kisses around her face
another body drops onto her bed, a hand runs through her hair. "happy birthday kiddo" she turns around to see her father, mark. he leans down to kiss her head
maeve smiles "thank you" she chuckles as she wraps one hand around her father's neck and another around her sister's, bringing the two closer to her
"i love you girls" mark said to his two girls as he hears their chuckles
"we lo—
maeve was cut off by the sound of a struggle by her door. the three let go of each other to see mark's girlfriend, lexie walking in with many balloons and a small cake that held a candle "h-happy birthday maeve" mark glanced back at his daughters as they chuckle "hey!" lexie exclaims at the three, before slowly joining in on their laughter
after maeve blew out the candle, sofia and lexie went into the kitchen to cut the cake, while mark stayed back with his daughter
"hey" he poked her cheek, as he leaned back on her bed frame. maeve placed her head on his lap before turning her head so she could look up at him "i'm grateful to have you, you know?" he says
maeve chuckles softly "i know" she smiled
"i may not be the perfect dad, but i'm trying you know?" mark assures
"you've been trying for 23 years now" maeve jokes with a grin as mark raised his brows to her "i'm kidding" she chuckles softly as he grips his hand "you've done everything you can. ever since my so called mother left me at your door step" she chuckled sadly as she looked anywhere but his eyes
"that day was the best day of my life....well, actually it was the scariest, but it eventually turned into the best day of my life" mark told her with a sly grin
"i'm surprised you didn't give me up for adoption"
"hey, i thought abo— ow!" mark exclaims as maeve hits his chest "i'm kidding. after i took you to the hospital i got a dna test. when the test came back positive, i thought to myself, i couldn't just give up my kid, you know? even if people would tell me, 'you can't raise a kid you're only 23', 'she would be better off with some parents who could give her a better life'" he stayed quiet for a few seconds "despite all of that, i still kept you, i wanted to. which is why i named you after me"
what mark said was true, as he was in the hospital with newborn maeve, he kept on going through millions of names, but none of them never fit perfectly. until, he was writing his name on the discharge papers
𝚖𝚊𝚛𝚔 𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚎𝚝𝚝 𝚜𝚕𝚘𝚊𝚗
it was like an anagram. he removed the 'rk' from his first name, and the 'rett' from his middle name. creating the perfect name for his daughter

maeve's middle name was special for mark. carolyn, was the one lady who always looked out for and cared for mark as a child, and more so when he decided to stay with his daughter. that lady took care of maeve, whenever mark wasn't able to. that lady was carolyn shepherd
"you know, growing up you were always at school or partying while i was with grandma shepherd. until i got that small role in criminal minds. then you slept with addison, uncle/godfather derek disappeared from our lives. we moved in with addison, she then left you. then out of the blue you leave to seattle leaving me with grandma shepherd. you come back to tell me we're moving to seattle. we moved here and you manage to sleep with all the nurses, you got called a man whore, you slept with callie, you met lexie and had this up and down relationship" she took a moment to breath
mark wanting to interrupt but she held a finger to his lips as she continued "a daughter you never knew about showed up out of the blue, along with being pregnant might i add. you scared lexie off, sloan manipulated you and made me look bad most of the time, you gave her all your attention while you forgot about me. she gave birth, gave the baby up for adoption and left with her mom. you apologized to me, which i of course forgave you. then one night you come home all shaken up, not telling me anything, until alex told me about the shooting. i still can't believe you were trying to hide that from me. you slept with callie again, got her pregnant. which made me a sister, forever grateful by the way" she points to him
"you started dating this julia chick. you got in a plane crash scaring me half to death. you left julia and got back together with lexie. you helped me as i was getting my aa in nursing. i left you and sofia so i could go to vancouver with my manager to film supernatural for three years, only being able to see you guys whenever i wasn't on set, or whenever you and sofia would surprise me. but then again you'd leave soon seeing as you were always needed back at the hospital. i dated a guy which who you absolutely loved more than me, i got my heart broken but you helped me through it. fast forward to now you're 47, with a 36 year old girlfriend, you have two daughters, well three but sloan isn't here. and you're paged every moment when you, sofia, and i are together" she took a breath
"but despite, all of that. you gave me the best life i could ever ask for, i wouldn't trade it for anything in the world" she said as she noticed mark fighting hard to blink his tears away "you're the best father i could ever ask for"
