Chapter 7

    Marinette's POV:

  I  fixed his favorite foods.

 I checked the clock it read 5:45 pm. It figured he was late as usual. 

I waited an hour. I reheated the now cold chicken drum sticks, mashed potatoes, gravy,and green beans. I saw no sense in wasting good food. As I sat at the table to eat alone, I sighed.

 This was the third day this week. I finished,  and read a book. I must have dozed off as the sound of my phone ringing startled me. "Not now, Alya!"  I never bothered to check the caller ID.

 " It is not Alya.  Babe, we need to talk," I heard the voice on the other end say.

  Marinette's POV:

 I listened closely as my world turned upside down.  Luka told me he was on an extended business trip and would return in three weeks. Then, he said the dreaded words, "Do not wait for me. I don't love you anymore.  Perhaps, you knew already. Marinette, do not cry. Look, it was nice, but you and I are old news." 

I trembled at the news. 

"Tell me, just one last thing, Luka! Are you happy?"

  I heard him as he chuckled and answered, "Yes, I suppose I  am. Now good riddance. "

 I dropped the phone in sheer horror. I got ready for bed.  I couldn't sleep. The conversation with Luka refused to leave my mind, especially the last line.

" How could he have treated me like trash?"

  I read a book. It was a romance novel.  As I got to the chapter where the boy promised he loved the girl, I screamed " He lied to you.  He never loved you!" I threw the book across the room not caring as it landed with a thud on the floor.

   Marinette's  POV:

 I was hurt, no more like betrayed. 

I sobbed until I fell asleep from sorrow.

The next day, I awakened early.  I drank some coffee.  It tasted awful. I saw myself in the mirror later, as I  got dressed, and hardly recognized myself.  I looked like a mess.

I brushed my hair.  I booked an appointment at the salon. I could use a new hairstyle.
