Día was intimidating in a sublime sort of way; she moved with power and grace, speaking with an undertone of authority that no one around her dared question, she reminded me of some Greek Goddess I had seen on TV at one point, possibly Artemis or Athena.
"Can you not handle alcohol?" Her question startled me out of my transfixed daze; she was behind the bar, pouring herself a glass of wine, the dark colour matching her lipstick.
"I can but it's been a while and I'm still slowly processing everything so I'm a little slow...Ma'am?" I tilted my head in confusion, unsure if I was addressing her correctly.
Día's laugh echoed over the buzz of conversation flowing from the nearby customers eating and drinking, "There's no need for such formalities, just speak comfortably, it will make time go faster."
I nodded hesitantly, sucking in my lips, glancing around for something to break the ice, my brain coming up blank; I had never spoken to anyone as fancy as her.
Día seemed to understand my discomfort, taking it upon herself to incite a new topic, "I heard you're running away from EXO. I think you're the first person to ever survive an EXO hit for this long."
My eyes widened and I picked up the shimmery purple drink Día had made me earlier and took a sip, "Lucky me. Are you familiar with the EXO gang? I don't know much about them so I could do with a mini 'how to avoid dying by EXO' guide."
Día beckoned me closer with her index finger, leaning in as well so we could speak in quieter tones, "I know EXO well, I met my husband while studying them. He's an inner circle gang member of EXO so I've had time to familiarise myself with their tactics and... quirks."
She leaned back to serve a customer that had called her over, working fast yet not spilling a single drop of the icy, red liquid before returning to where I was seated at the end of the bar, "If I'm honest, their tactics are scary; they play games and take turns torturing people, they drag it out for unnecessary periods of time and when the victim finally thinks it's over, they drop them into acid, letting them die a slow, painful death."
I gulped deeply but she didn't notice continuing casually like she was talking about the colour of the sky or what time it was instead of a murderous gang.
"They're also very efficient and well connected which is why I find it strange you're still alive...but then again I suppose you do have a guardian angel in the inner circle," she winked at me playfully, tapping my hand lightly with her nail.
I met her calculating eyes, raising one brow in question, "A guardian angel in the inner circle?"
Día straightened herself out, pulling herself up to her full height, which was not very high, her eyes searching for every weakness, every flaw that she could possibly find, "You really don't know?"
"Don't know what?" I demanded, already growing nervous and wanting to reach for my phone to call Ri-Ya.
Día scoffed silently before pulling out her phone, typing and heading away again to serve another customer.
I put my phone down.
