"We just left after that. The Black Aces haven't replied yet but I'm sure it won't take long." I finished describing the attack on the Black Aces warehouse to Chan-Yeol who nodded along slowly while drinking out of his juice carton.
I had watched Ma-Ra and Ri-Ya from a distance the whole attack, I had stayed with Día. We had been responsible for torching the warehouse and organising the transportation of weapons. I only left the scene for a good little over an hour ago, the sun already setting when I arrived back at Chan-Yeol's.
"Suho was surprised when he found out, I don't think he actually expected Ma-Ra to snap. It makes sense though; it must have been difficult for her to bear all those deaths on her conscience." Chan-Yeol mumbled softly, his head resting in the crook of his arm, rolling a pen up and down his desk.
I stopped chewing, glancing down at the rice cakes in my bowl before placing it down on the hood of the car I was sitting on, "Why would you make me feel sorry for her? It's killing my appetite."
Chan-Yeol snorted, raising his hands, "My bad, feel free to keep hating her."
I rolled my eyes, leaning back on my elbows and swaying my legs, "Now that you've mentioned Suho though, I guess I can ask. Is he actually terminating the alliance contract?"
Chan-Yeol let out a short laugh, sitting up to study his computer screen flashing with a new notification before mumbling, "It was all bullshit. Suho called her again this morning, asking her to meet with him... though it sounded more like begging." He glanced at me over his shoulder, "I'm guessing they're going to change some rules instead, make it so there's no power imbalance."
I clicked my tongue, sighing dramatically and jumping down from the hood moving to stand behind Chan-Yeol instead, peering down at the moving screens switching between footages of different CCTV cameras around the city. "Have you seen Kim Re-Won in any of the tapes recently?" I leaned across his shoulder, pressing a key that let me zoom into a scene on one of the CCTV cameras of a group of youths gathering at a convenience store on the EXO territory's boundary line.
Chan-Yeol whipped around, brushing my fingers away from the keyboard and zooming out again, his hand staying on mine, holding onto it, "That name is banned in this building; don't ask about him, don't speak about him, don't even think about him while you're here."
I glanced at his face intently, but he refused to meet my eyes, "Since when?"
"Since now," He quipped, squeezing my hand before letting me retract it back to my side.
I studied his face, dark with annoyance and tension. His hair was tied back out of his face, his eyebags visible despite the minimal lighting; he looked drained.
"Are you afraid of him?" I asked softly, reaching up to play with the ends of his hair,
"No."
I snorted, leaning on the armrest of his chair and in turn on his side, "You sound scared though,"
Chan-Yeol stiffened at my actions before he restarted his tapping at the keys, his eyes fixated on the what he was seeing.
"Why?" I whispered the question into his ear, taunting him playfully, "Don't you know I'll protect you from him?"
If it was possible, Chan-Yeol tensed further, his back straightening and hands clenching, his voice coming out hoarsely as he slowly released his gritted teeth, "Who's protecting who? I'm not scared of him; I'm scared of what he could do to you, Reom-Ah."
