Park Chan-Yeol's Pov.
▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎Working with Yeo-Reom became a habit very quickly.
She came in every morning, usually cursing for whatever reason, but she worked any chance she got, and she never complained too much, and I drove her home every night so she could have her quiet downtime with the car window open.
We became close, we built an odd sort of friendship. She became the person I ate with every day, three times a day and she, somehow in the three whole months she'd worked for me, had never once paid for food. She became the person that called me out on my 'golden spoon' mentality, as she put it, and taught me how to do things by myself. She also happened to be the person that would turn the water hose on when In-Ju came to visit as a bonus. I liked having her around more than I cared to admit.
I became the person she called at four in the morning because a drunk man was banging on her door, and she couldn't find her hammer to hit him with herself. I ended up being the one coming over to her studio flat with a toolbox, repairing cracked walls and windows that didn't shut. I made sure she didn't go hungry, and her fridge was always full. I knew she appreciated me too, she just didn't know how to say it.
She showed it well enough though, letting me get away with sappy nicknames and hugging her whenever I felt like it. She even let me teach her how to drive. We developed an understanding between us as we worked together; we weren't exactly friends, but we would try fill some gap in each other's hearts left by others.
"Yah! Did you fall and die in there? Come out quickly, you have a guest," Yeo-Reom's voice demanded, and I heard her huff before something hit the door, "Chan!"
I shook my head, laughing to myself before shutting off the tap I'd left running, drying my hands on my jeans and stepping out of the bathroom.
Yeo-Reom had hitched herself up onto the hood of my car which I'd driven inside to keep out of the rain. Her face was serious, and it was easy to tell she was fully focused on the bowl of ramen noodles in her hands to the point where she didn't really notice anything else. One of her shoes was missing and it only took me a second to realise it was beside the bathroom door, probably acting as the thing she had thrown to get my attention.
I glanced away from her, to the entrance and to my surprise, Baek-Hyun was standing there, looking expensive as usual, an unlit cigarette dangling from his lips. His eyes were trained on Yeo-Reom with a dangerous look, a look I'd seen him give people right before he killed them.
I began to grow anxious, I looking between the two but she didn't seem to recognize him or even care that he was there.
"Baek, hi, I didn't expect to see you here today, why did you come? Did something happen?" I tried to divert his attention to me as I ducked down to pick up Yeo-Reom's shoe, walking over to her and setting it down on the hood. She nodded in thanks but didn't do anything else.
Baek-Hyun kept his eyes on her as he replied, "I was in the neighbourhood on a job, so I decided to drop in and see how you were doing. I think something is wrong with my car though so can you check on it? It's outside."
I frowned in confusion; Baekhyun had brought in his car for a maintenance check only one week ago after working hours and it had been completely fine. Still, I nodded anyway, turning to Yeo-Reom before I left, "I'll be back in a minute, ShortStuff. I'll drive you home after this so get in the car once you're done eating."
