-----August 27th-----
After finally settling down, rain started pouring outside, the raindrops dripping down the large window inside my room.
I looked out the window, almost longingly.
"You know what, I have an idea." Cedric said as he ran his hands through his hair. I looked up at him to see him smiling lightly back at me.
"What is it?"
"We should go outside in the rain." He pointed at the window.
"Are you serious? It looks too cold."
He sat up and looked at me, "Come on, you don't mean that. Besides, I saw you looking out the window."
I looked at him then the window then returned my gaze back to him.
"Fine, but I reserve the right to leave if it gets too cold," I said, refusing to admit that he was right and that I did in fact want to go outside to the rain.
Cedric chuckled before he draped his legs off the bed and stood up.
"Yeah, yeah. Just come on," he said, bending down and picking me up bridal style.
-
As Cedric sat me down, a small breeze flew through the crack of the slightly opened door that led out to the gloomy courtyard.
Cedric pulled the cracked door completely open.
"Holy fuck-," I began, wrapping my arms around myself, trying to get a sense of warmth. "It's cold."
He grinned before wrapping his arm around my shoulders, his warmth immediately flooding me. He gently led me out into the cold rain.
It wasn't as bad as I would have thought. It felt freeing in a way, as if all my stress was being washed away.
I breathed in deeply, a content smile on my face.
He led me to a bench that sat below a tree, allowing me to sit down.
"Wait here a moment, would you?" He questioned gently.
I nodded in response, confused.
He walked away to the other side of the tree and out of my sight.
I sighed lightly, before slouching and placing my head in my hand.
I stared out across the foggy landscape of hogwarts.
You could see the occasional student walking with a friend or by themselves, but other than that, the courtyard was empty.
I perked up at the sound of approaching footsteps and turned to see Cedric walking back around the tree, smiling gently and holding something behind his back.
"Whatcha got there?" I asked him playfully.
Cedric smiled once more, before kneeling down on one knee in front of me. I frowned in confusion.
"Cedric?" I questioned, tilting my head.
He pulled his hand out from behind his back showing a blue flower. Well, flowers. It was more like multiple flowers on one stem.
"Forget-me-nots?" I questioned him. I knew these flowers quite well.
Cedric nodded before skooching a bit closer to me. "Cedric, why are you acting so strange right now?"
He shook his head slightly, looking at the flower he held in his hands.
"Do you know what they mean?" Cedric questioned gently.
I frowned a bit before shaking my head.
"They represent true love. Supposedly, giving someone one means that you truly love and respect the person in which you give it to." My eyes widened, already knowing where this was going.
He looked back up at me, reaching his hand out slowly and gently placing it on my cheek.
I felt my eyes water and my lip quiver.
"Y/n, I think I-,"
"No," I said, interrupting him. I stood up and took a few steps back and away from him.
"D-don't finish that sentence." Cedric immediately stood up."What?" Cedric said, taking a small step towards me. He stopped his advance immediately when he noticed me take another step back away from him.
"W-we can't do this," I said, trying my hardest to keep my composure. I shook my head. "I, I mean, I can't do this." Cedric looked at me with confusion and worry.
"Y/n, why can't you do this?" He questioned. "What exactly can't you do?" I shook my head again, breathing deeply but shakily.
"I can't do this to you Ced." I responded, the first sign of tears showing in my eyes.
He shook his head, tears forming in his own eyes. He tried stepping closer again, but I stepped back yet again.
"Y/n, please," he said. "What can't you do to me?"
A tear rolled down my cheek and I quickly wiped it away.
"I'm not good for you." I said, looking away from him. "Not only that, I'm not good enough for you."
I turned away from him, wiping more tears off my cheeks. I started walking away before I felt him grab my arm.
"No, that's not up to you." Cedric said. "I know you. I know that you are good enough for me. I know you're even too good for me, Y/n. So please, can we at least try?" I glanced up at him, staring into his sincere eyes. Rain fell over the curve of his cheek and over his lips, capturing my attention for a moment.
I shook my head before looking back up to his eyes.
"I-," I began, hesitating. I shook my head again. "I'm sorry, Cedric. We just can't do this, not now. I promise you, I'm no good for you." I quickly yanked my arm from his grasp before turning and running away from him despite his pleading for me to stop.
Leaving him alone in the rain.
