«Telling The Truth»

"Nice and easy, girl," I say softly as we zoom through the sky at the speed only a Night Fury could accomplish. She makes a noise of what I assume is agreement as she flaps her wings. I can hear Hiccup whooping as he soars on ahead, unaware of my presence and I smile with amusement.

As soon as Toothless reduces his speed and starts to glide over the clouds I knew Hiccup was starting to just enjoy the view. I click my tongue and Nightwing grumbles lowly before noiselessly flying overhead the clueless brunette. I try to keep myself from making noise as I lean down in my saddle towards Hiccup.

I ruffle his hair and he exclaims in fear, leaning his head back to see who it was. I giggle in amusement and he rolls his eyes at me, but the corners of his lips tilt up in a smile. "Ivy! Don't sneak up on me like that! Almost gave me a heart attack."

"I'll remember that next time," I muse and right myself in my saddle. Toothless adjusts his wings and effortlessly moves so he's flying beside Nightwing. The two Night Furies call to each other and Hiccup and I smile at the exchange. "Guess I'm not the only earlier morning flyer," I call to him and he smiles.

"Toothless and I mostly fly once the sun starts to set, but you already know that. Besides I usual don't get a lot of time to myself."

"I know what you mean. It's nice to get away from my Chief duties for awhile. I'm used to being a loner, right girl?" Nightwing grumbles and Toothless makes a soft noise. "Ivy, what did you do before crashing on Berk three years ago? You said you'd been attacked by the Outcasts, but I'm going to guess that's not true."

I look away from him almost forgetting that when we first met I'd lied to him about how I got into the state I was in. Well, I didn't lie entirely, just about my attackers. "I told you before that the people on my island could be cruel. Even though our Chief was Oswald the Agreeable, my father. But there's a reason we're called Berserkers."

Nightwing makes a comforting noise and I rub her head. "When I found Nightwing she was only a babe and I wasn't that old myself. I knew what would happen to her if any of my village found her. So, I kept her hidden as best I could. Found her a nice spot on the island, far away from my village, and helped her survive until she was old enough to hunt for herself."

"Huh, that's a lot of responsibility for a young girl. The most amazing part is that you wanted to protect Nightwing even after what happened to your mom."

"Heh. I guess it was. My mom was killed when I was only a infant. Couldn't really hold a grudge against dragons because I don't really remember her. Just that she had black hair with white streaks."

"I'm sorry," he says and I shake my head. Can't really miss what you don't remember. "Then of course the day I turned fifteen was the day that a berserker spotted a Night Fury flying over our island and caused a whole spectacle. People were lining up to create a hunting party. They were going to kill her."

Toothless growls and Hiccup nods in agreement, patting his head. "Yeah, we know that feeling."

"I couldn't let that happen so I wrote a note, telling my father and brother how sorry I was and then I went off to find Nightwing. It never crossed my mind that she'd let me ride her and I didn't want to try. But somehow the villagers seemed to know exactly where she was and were getting closer while I tried to get Nightwing to run."

My companion makes a noise as she flaps her wings. "I don't know what made her do it but before I could even plead again she was slipping under me and launching into the sky while I tried to keep from falling off. Ever since then it's just been us."

"You were on your own for two whole years?" I nod my head and pull strands of obsidian hair out of my face. Astrid keeps trying to coax me into letting her braid it but I like my hair how it is. "And I guess with me being gone Dagur only got worse, then Father disappeared sometime after that."
