We're brought before Queen Mala who's sitting on her throne with Throk standing next to her. I step forward and look up at her as she begins to speak. "You stand accused of being Dragon Hunters, subjugators of dragons. Do you deny this?"
"Yes."
"But you admit that you force the dragons to carry you on their backs?"
"We don't force them."
"And that you used them to land secretly on our island?"
"Yes. But you make it sound worse than it was."
"So, you weren't caught by my men sneaking toward our village?"
"“Sneaking” is a strong word."
"And you didn't come heavily armed?"
"Those are for self-defense."
"Oh, so you came here expecting a fight?" She smirks and I shake my head as I get increasingly frustrated and worried. "No, you're… you're twisting my words."
"That's it!" I hear Ivy exclaim and she marches to my side, narrowing her eyes up at the Defenders of the Wing leader. "Listen hear, your majesty," she says it in an almost a mocking tone which caused Throk to glare at her but he remains silent.
"Yes, we landed here on your island without your permission and we're sorry for that. But like you we've had unpleasant experiences with Viggo and his Hunters which is why we decided to approach your village with caution. But we also left our dragons behind because if you weren't working for Viggo then we hoped you'd become our allies."
I nod in agreement as Mala stares down at us calmly. "We love our dragons. We take care of each other. We've been trying our hardest to protect them from Viggo's Hunters. Did we always have a peaceful relationship with them? No. But things are different now."
"Ivy's right. Look, until a few years ago, we fought dragons. But since then, we've learned to live in harmony with them." Mala arches her brow as I continue. "And yes, we ride them, because they allow us to. But the most important thing for you to know about us is that we hate the Dragon Hunters and everything they stand for."
Ivy and the others nod as murmurs ripple through the crowd watching the "trial". Mala stands up and looks down at me. "We are moved by your sincerity and passion, Hiccup Haddock. Just one question. If you despise Viggo as you say, why do you hold a map written in his hand and carrying his signature?"
She lifts up the map and unrolls it, holding the side that has Viggo's signature in the corner. My eyes widen and I want to kick myself for bringing it. "I find you all guilty. And I sentence you to the same fate that befalls all Dragon Hunters, the Nest!" The crowd cheers and Ivy glares up at Mala.
They take us farther into the island, up hill toward a cave. I look over my shoulder at Toothless and Nightwing who are trailing after us. I face forward and continue walking, looking around the cave, spotting some gronckles resting on ledges.
"So, you still think we can be allies with these guys?" Astrid asks from behind me as Ivy walks alongside me. "Actually, I do."
"Hey, this is no time for optimism," Snotlout snaps and I ignore him. "Hiccup, we need to make a break for it. Soon!" Heather insists and I shake my head. "Alright, hear me out. They're taking us to "the Nest," right? The Nest of…?"
"Dragons, I assume," Astrid finishes and I nod. "Right. So, when they toss me in this nest, instead of getting eaten, I'm gonna train those dragons and prove once and for all that we aren't Dragon Hunters."
