Standing with a cup of tea in the kitchen of my small cottage looking out of the window at the snow, I was the most content I've ever felt. I was even more content knowing that my fiancée, the love of my life was asleep upstairs.
Or so I thought. A pair of arms wrapped around me as a kiss was placed on my neck.
"Good morning you." I whispered.
"I could get used to this." His voice was husky, he had only just woken up.
"You know this place is finally starting to feel like home. I hated it at first, now with you here it feels nice."
"No really, I could get used to this. Waking up to you every morning, not at anyone else's house, not at Hogwarts, at ours. Having breakfast together as we get ready for our day, going to work and then coming home and talking about our days before spending the evening together. That's all I want. A simple life with you."
"Wow, you've really thought about this."
"Of course I have. I can't wait. This would be a good place to have a family too."
"How many kids do you think we'll have?"
Draco spun me around so I was facing him. His hands gently enclosed on my cheeks as he smiled.
"Well we'll need to have one Slytherin and one Gryffindor so that's two at least. Or maybe they'll all be Gryffindor like you, or another house. To be honest I've never really felt like a true Slytherin."
"And why's that?"
"I don't know, I guess I've just always felt like I only got in because of my family name, I think I'm too cowardly to be a proper Slytherin. Even the dark lord was hesitant to give me the mark, bet he saw how weak I was."
Now it was my turn to put my hands on his cheeks.
"Now you listen here. You are a true Slytherin. You are the most determined person I've ever met. That's what makes you a Slytherin."
"And you, Victoria Belle Greenwood are the bravest person I know, I hope our kids get your genes."
"And I hope they get your eyes."
"It's weird isn't it, thinking about our future as if it's a long way off, when in reality we only have a few months left of Hogwarts before we are shoved out into the world to fend for ourselves."
"There's a whole world out there, and it's ours for the taking, just think like that and you'll be just fine."
"Starting with our wedding."
"When do you think we should have it?" I asked, and Draco leant against the kitchen counter, still in just his boxers, the sunlight streaming on his torso, and his hair sticking up in the back.
"Summer. Get school and the battle anniversary out of the way, and then....Paris."
I blinked. "You want to get married in Paris?"
"Of course I do, going back to Paris is top of my list for after school, and you deserve a wedding as beautiful as you are, and Paris is the most beautiful city in the world."
"Paris it is then."
Draco came over to me, enveloping me in a tight hug. I nestled my head into his neck and he rubbed my back softly. My stomach was full of butterflies as my whole body coarser with the love I have for this boy, a boy that was turning into a man more and more every day.
The rest of our morning was perfect, with Draco attempting to cook breakfast for us without using magic, ending up with a few eggs on the floor and me buying us both food from the local bakery. Then getting ready, while Draco read the newspaper, glancing up at me and smiling to himself every so often when he thought I wasn't watching. It was like getting a glimpse into our future, a future I couldn't wait for.
We didn't go back to the burrow, instead we decided to go straight to Malfoy Manor, where we would be spending New Years. It was a chance for me to get to know Lucius and Narcissa, and to get their blessing to marry their son, after all, Draco got my mother's before she died.
We soon apparated, leaving my little cottage behind and landed outside the gates of the biggest house I'd ever seen. It was as grand as I imagined it to be, with large fields surrounding it. I felt my stomach drop with nerves as the reality set in and Draco grabbed my hand reassuringly.
"Ready?"
"As I'll ever be."
He tapped his wand on the black iron gates and they opened, and he led us up the long driveway and to the black front door with a large iron knocker on. He knocked on the door and Narcissa opened the door, smiling warmly.
"Darling."
"Hello mother."
She looked happier. Her cheeks were rosy and she wore a long black dress, she was the epitome of elegance. I felt silly wearing my hand knitted jumper and wished that I had chosen to wear something better, something that matched Draco's black suit that he was stood in, the collar tight around his neck.
The pair embraced, and as they pulled away Narcissa spotted me, and her eyes lit up.
"Victoria. It's so lovely to meet you properly at last."
"Nice to meet you too Mrs Malfoy."
She pulled me in for a hug. She smelt of expensive perfume, and her hair was soft to the touch.
"Call me Narcissa."
"Draco." Another voice came from the large entrance hall to the manor and I felt Draco stiffen up beside me.
"Father."
"And this must be....Miss Greenwood." Something in Lucius' tone told me that he wasn't particularly happy to see me, which made my stomach churn.
"Lucius isn't she pretty." Narcissas arm was reassuringly around my waist as she spoke to her husband. Lucius' face changed so he was smiling stiffly as he said "indeed. Always nice to meet a friend of Draco's."
"Girlfriend, father." Draco spoke in a small voice, lacing his fingers with mine, and Lucius' smile changed to more of a grimace.
"Right. Well we have another guest joining us for dinner this evening. Come out dear." We heard movement from the next room and out a came a girl who we recognised at once.
"Astoria."
